Overview

A tax transparency record for large public companies — how little federal tax they paid, from public SEC filings and ITEP.

Get Untethered shows you how little federal income tax large public companies actually paid — right on the sites where you shop and browse. Open a page like walmart.com, meta.com, or amazon.com, and the toolbar icon gives you a one-glance verdict. Click it for the company's Tax Transparency Record: the federal income tax rate it paid, how that compares to the 21% full federal rate, and — where the filings show it — the dollars involved. Every number comes from public records: the company's own filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and analysis from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP). How it works Visit a company's site and the icon turns a color based on how much of the full federal rate it paid: 🔴 Red — High tax avoidance. Paid a small fraction of the 21% rate. 🟡 Yellow — Some tax avoidance. Paid well under the full rate. 🟢 Green — Paid close to the full federal rate. 🔴 Got money back — A negative rate: the company reported a federal refund. Click the icon for the full record — the rate paid, the tax year, stock buybacks where reported, and a plain-language note on what the number means. What it doesn't claim Get Untethered shows what's on the public record. It does not claim any company broke the law — these companies used deductions and credits that Congress wrote into the tax code. That's the point: the rules themselves are the story. Every record links you to a pre-written letter to your own members of Congress, built from that company's filings, so you can weigh in if you choose. Privacy Get Untethered collects nothing about you. No account, no telemetry, no analytics, no tracking. It reads the address of the site you're on, looks that company up in a public dataset, and shows the record. That's all. Learn more at getuntethered.ai
