Open a GEDCOM file and actually look at your family tree. GEDCOM (.ged) is the standard file format for family history, and nearly every genealogy program and website can export one. Opening that file is the annoying part: it is plain text meant for computers, and reading it usually means importing it somewhere and making an account first. This extension opens it in one click. Pick a .ged file — or drag it onto the page — and your family appears as a tree you can pan, zoom and explore. WHAT YOU GET • Two ways to see the same family Strict lays generations out in tidy rows, the way a family tree is normally drawn. Fluid lets the family arrange itself organically, which makes clusters and distant branches easier to spot in a large file. • Make it readable Switch between themes, change how the connecting lines are drawn, and adjust how each person's card looks until the tree reads the way you want. • Light and dark Follows whichever you prefer. • Ten languages English, Turkish, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Chinese, Finnish and Lithuanian. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your family history is nobody else's business, and this extension is built so that it cannot become anybody else's. • Your file is read on your own computer and is never uploaded. • No account, no sign-up, nothing to fill in. • No analytics, no tracking, no data collection of any kind. • No permissions requested — check the "Permissions" section: it is empty. • Works completely offline. Turn off your Wi-Fi and it still works. There is no server involved, because there is nothing to send anywhere. GOOD TO KNOW This is a viewer. It shows you what is in the file — it does not change it, and nothing you do here is written back to your .ged file. Photos are not shown, because GEDCOM files store links to photos rather than the photos themselves. Very large files may take a moment to lay out.
