Hush is a tab muter and tab audio manager for Chrome that stops that noise in one keystroke, or does it for you automatically. ONE-KEYSTROKE CONTROL Mute other tabs (Alt+M): the tab you’re on keeps playing, every other tab goes quiet. Press again and everything comes back. Mute all tabs (Alt+Shift+M): silence the whole browser instantly, great for calls, meetings, or when someone walks in. Auto-follow (Alt+A): the sound follows you. Switch tabs and the tab you left is muted while the new one plays. Like a “mute background tabs” setting Chrome never gave you. All shortcuts can be changed in Chrome’s keyboard shortcut settings. FIND WHICH TAB IS PLAYING SOUND The toolbar badge shows how many tabs are making sound right now. Open the popup to see “Playing now”, a list of every tab producing audio. “Played in the last 10 minutes” shows tabs that went quiet recently, so you can find that autoplay video or ad that made a noise and stopped. Jump to any tab with one click, or mute or unmute a single tab right from the list. The toolbar icon changes color with the mode (ready, following, others muted, all muted, paused) so you always know what Hush is doing. SMART, RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR Restores exactly what it muted. Hush only unmutes tabs it muted itself. If you muted a tab manually, it stays muted. Your manual choices win. Click mute or unmute on a tab and Hush won’t fight you. Grace delay: the tab you just left keeps playing for a moment (adjustable up to 5 seconds), so a song or video doesn’t cut off mid-sentence when you glance at another tab. Pinned tabs keep playing. Keep Spotify, YouTube Music, or a call tab pinned and auto-follow won’t mute it. Multi-window support. Choose whether each window keeps its own active tab audible, or only the window you’re currently using. Mute silent tabs too (optional): pre-mute every background tab so nothing can burst in with autoplay audio, or only mute tabs that are actually making sound for a cleaner tab bar. “Put everything back” undoes all of Hush’s changes in one click. “Pause Hush” stands down without uninstalling. Tab titles are optional. Without them, Hush shows generic labels like “Tab 3 in window 1” and reads no page titles or addresses. Turn on “Show tab names” only if you want titles in the list, and turn it off any time.
