Overview

Capture website steps, annotate and redact screenshots, then export offline guides.

A screenshot. A clear next step. A guide to hand over. STEPDRAFT helps you turn a website workflow into a readable step-by-step guide. Capture the visible page deliberately, add the explanation a reader needs, then export a self-contained document. CAPTURE DELIBERATELY Use the toolbar capture button or the suggested Alt+Shift+S shortcut on an ordinary HTTP(S) page. STEPDRAFT captures the visible viewport, not an entire scrolling page and not a video. It does not monitor every click or capture in the background. A page-change check rejects a capture when the active tab or URL changes during the operation. The shortcut can be reassigned in Chrome. EDIT THE GUIDE Use a compact collection panel or open the full editor. Name the guide, write an introduction and arrange up to 40 steps. Each step can contain a title, explanation and image, or just text. Import a PNG screenshot, replace an image, duplicate and reorder steps. Add arrows, frames, numbered pins, text labels, crop areas and solid redactions. Structural undo/redo keeps up to 60 in-session states. REVIEW BEFORE SHARING HTML and Markdown exports contain rasterized screenshots with annotations and opaque redactions written into the pixels. These shared exports do not contain the original unredacted screenshot as a hidden CSS layer. You must still review the whole guide: STEPDRAFT does not automatically detect personal information, secrets or sensitive text. EXPORT WHAT YOU NEED Export one offline HTML file with embedded images, or a Markdown ZIP with README.md and flattened PNG files. A separate .stepdraft project preserves editable steps and ORIGINAL UNREDACTED images for future editing. That private project is not a redacted sharing format; exporting it requires an explicit warning acknowledgement. LOCAL DRAFTS Store up to 20 guides. Screenshots and documents stay in IndexedDB; the active guide and shortcut error status use chrome.storage.local. Delayed autosave and revision checking help surface conflicts when another view or capture changes a guide. Export backups for important work; local storage is not a guaranteed permanent backup. Limits: 40 steps per guide; 100 annotations per step; PNG input up to 12 MB, 16 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per edge; .stepdraft files up to 45 MB. A local image safety budget applies. Large exports may take time and the interface displays a busy state. There is no PDF/video export, automatic click recording, OCR, cloud collaboration or full-page stitching in version 1.0.0. English interface with Unicode guide text. No account, analytics, advertisements, remote scripts, microphone recording or automatic upload. Review rights and confidentiality before capturing or sharing a website.
