Overview

Darkens websites that have no dark mode of their own, whenever your system is dark. Follows the Dusk app automatically.

Dusk for Chrome turns light-only websites dark when your computer is dark, and leaves everything else alone. Many sites still have no dark mode. At night they are a white rectangle in an otherwise dark screen. Dusk fixes exactly that, and nothing more: • Follows your system. When your computer switches to dark, light-only sites darken. When it switches back to light, they return to normal. No button to press. • Leaves good dark modes alone. If a site already has its own dark theme, Dusk detects that and does not touch it. • Keeps photos and video natural. Pages are recoloured; pictures, video and embedded players are not. • Your rules per site. Keep one site always dark, another always light, or switch Dusk off for a site that looks wrong. One click in the popup. • Works the other way too. Force a dark-only site to light if that is what you prefer. • Private by design. No account, no analytics, no network requests. Nothing leaves your browser. How it works: Dusk looks at the page's own background colours to decide whether it is already dark. If it is light and your system is dark, Dusk asks the browser to invert the page's colours while it paints, then flips photos and video back. There is no screen capture and no lag. Dusk for Chrome works by itself. It pairs with the Dusk app for Mac, which switches your whole computer and your apps between light and dark from one switch, but the app is not required. What Dusk stores, only on your computer: your mode, your per-site choices, and up to 300 site names it has already measured, so pages do not flash white while loading. Nothing is remembered in Incognito. "Forget remembered sites" in the popup clears the list. Known limits: pages that use color to carry meaning, such as charts, maps and photo editors, can look wrong when inverted. Switch Dusk off for that site in the popup.
