Overview
Blanks out articles for language practice, translates selected words and saves them for flashcards. German, Dutch and Danish
Turn any webpage into practice material for the language you want to learn! Practice material for articles is usually boring, hard to find and stuck behind yet another account. You get a short worksheet about a family going shopping, finish it in five minutes, and then there's nothing left to practise with. Gap Mode turns the whole web into your practice material. Open a news story, a blog, a recipe or a Wikipedia page about something you actually care about, switch on Gap Mode, and every article on the page becomes a gap to fill in. There's always more to read, it's always about topics you chose, and you never have to sign up for anything. HOW IT WORKS - Open any web page in German, Dutch or Danish. - Click the Gap Mode icon, choose your language and switch Gap Mode on. - The articles disappear from the text. Read on and fill them in as you go. - Switch it off and every word comes back exactly as written. WHAT IT PRACTISES - German: der, die, das, den, dem, des. You can also blank the article inside contractions such as zum, im and ins. - Dutch: de and het. - Danish: definite endings such as -en and -et (bogen, huset), as well as en/et and den/det/de. TRANSLATE AS YOU READ Select a word or sentence to see its translation right there on the page. For a single noun you also get its article, plural and (for Dutch) diminutive, coloured by gender: "das Haus – house – pl. Häuser". Translation runs on your own device. BUILD YOUR OWN WORD LIST Press "Save word" in the translation tooltip to keep a word, along with its translation, article and the sentence you found it in. On the Word list page you can edit or delete words, and export them as flashcards for Anki or Quizlet, or as a CSV file. NO ACCOUNT, NO TRACKING - No sign-up, no login. - Your settings and word list are stored only in your browser on this device. - The extension only runs on a tab after you click its icon. It doesn't read the sites you visit in the background. - To look up noun information, the selected word is sent to freedictionaryapi.com. If you use the optional "Report missed article" button for Danish, the word and its sentence are sent to us so we can improve the extension. Nothing else leaves your device. Made by two language learners who wanted more to read than the same five worksheets.
