Chess Helper & Evaluator

)Overview
Actively scans your chess board, saves previous moves, evaluates them and provides tips. Runs offline with Stockfish.
This is an early test build. It's the first public version, so it won't be perfect yet. Board reading might occasionally misread a position, some features may not behave the way you expect, and a few things probably need clearer explanations. If something doesn't work or doesn't make sense, please contact me through the support hub. I'd love to hear your feedback, good or bad. It goes straight into making the next versions better. A chess board with a built-in Stockfish engine, in Chrome's side panel. It reads the board from the page you're on, follows the game as it's played, rates every move and shows you what the engine would play. Do not use this against real players. It's made for practising against bots and studying games. Getting engine help while another person is playing you breaks the fair-play rules of almost every chess site, including in unrated and friendly games. Sites detect it, and it can get your account banned. Practise against bots and learn as you go • Start a game against a computer opponent on any site, open the panel and press Watch. • Every move from both sides is picked up automatically and saved to the move list. • Each move is rated, from brilliant (!!) to blunder (??), so you see your mistakes right after you make them. • Arrows show the engine's best moves for the current position, so you can try its suggestion or compare it with your own idea. • When the game ends, go back through the rated move list to see where it turned. Scan any board • Click "Scan screen" to load the position from a board shown in the current tab. It works from the picture, so it doesn't depend on any particular website. • Teach it new piece styles, and it remembers them. Analyse any position • Make moves by dragging or clicking, with legal moves shown. • Top three engine moves as arrows: blue for the best, orange for the alternatives, green when one move is clearly the only good option. • An eval bar, evaluations with follow-up lines, and a game graph for games played on the board. • Free placement mode: set up any position and analyse it for either side. • Undo, reset, flip and rotate the board, and load or copy FEN. Private and offline • Stockfish runs on your own computer. There's no account, no server, and no data is collected or sent anywhere. • Screenshots are taken only when you scan or watch, are read in memory and are then discarded. • Access to all sites is optional, off by default and only needed for Watch to keep following after a page reload. BUTTONS AND CONTROLS: Read from screen • Scan screen: takes one screenshot of the current tab and loads the chessboard it finds onto the panel's board. • Watch: keeps scanning automatically and follows the game as it's played, adding and rating every move. • Board from: White's side / Black's side: tells the extension which way round the board on the website is. Set it to the side you're playing before scanning. • ⚙ opens the settings. Position • White's turn / Black's turn: shows whose move it is. Click it to give the move to the other player if a scan guessed wrong. • Undo: takes back the last move if manualy placed. • Reset: starts a new game from the starting position. • Flip: flips the entire board and pieces around to view it from the other side. • Rotate: turns the board underneath the pieces. Use it to fix a position that was read with the wrong board orientation. Free placement mode • Piece palette: drag pieces onto the board. Drag a piece off the board or right-click it to remove it, and the bin clears the whole board. • Calculate White / Calculate Black: analyses the position you set up with that side to move. • Reset board: puts the starting position back. Engine suggestions • Arrows: blue is the best move and orange are the alternatives. Green means one move is clearly the only good option, and turquoise means a sacrifice that works. • Suggestion list: the suggested moves with their evaluations. Click one to play it. • Move list: every move gets a rating, from !! (brilliant) to ?? (blunder). Hover over a rating for details. • Eval bar: the bar beside the board shows White's winning chances. Settings • Free placement: switches to setup mode, so you can place pieces anywhere. • FEN Load / Copy: loads a position from FEN text, or copies the current position as FEN. • Teach pieces: learns a website's piece style. Show a game at the starting position and press it. Only needed if scanning doesn't work on a site. • Allow all sites: optional. Lets Watch keep following a game after the page reloads. • Panel / Board / Pieces: changes the panel theme, board colours and piece style. • Engine: turns the engine on or off. • Coordinates: shows or hides the a–h and 1–8 labels. • Depth limit: how deeply the engine thinks. Lower is faster and uses less battery, higher gives stronger suggestions. Free and open source (GPL-3.0). Includes Stockfish.
