Overview

Mute sites you don't want to see in search and find alternative coverage without wasting the click.

SiteMute gives you control over the websites you no longer want to waste clicks on. Add a site once, and SiteMute can stop future visits, fade or hide that source in search results, and help you find the same story somewhere else. Mute unwanted sites Add websites manually, mute the site you are currently visiting, or right-click a search result and mute its destination directly. Once a site is muted, SiteMute remembers your choice locally in Chrome. Clean up your search results Muted Results works across Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo. Choose how muted sites appear: • Normal — leave search results unchanged • Fade — keep muted results visible, but clearly subdued • Hide — remove muted results from the page With Fade enabled, you can also use Find alternatives to search for the same story without opening the muted website first. Smart Redirect If you click a muted article anyway, SiteMute can stop the visit and help you look for the same story elsewhere. When Smart Redirect is enabled, SiteMute can use the headline you clicked to create better searches across Google News, Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo. Headline detection happens locally in your browser. If a headline cannot be captured, SiteMute can fall back to information from the article URL. Temporary access Need to visit a muted site just this once? SiteMute lets you: • Visit once • Allow the site temporarily for 10 minutes • End temporary access early at any time When temporary access expires, SiteMute simply starts muting future visits again. It does not remove you from a page you are already reading. Your list, your rules Manage muted sites from the SiteMute settings page, optionally add a reminder for why you muted a site, and export or import your settings between Chrome profiles. Privacy by design SiteMute has: • No SiteMute account • No SiteMute backend • No extension analytics • No personalized advertising Your muted-site list, settings, reminders and local activity counts stay in Chrome extension storage. Optional website access is requested only when you enable features such as Smart Redirect or Muted Results. SiteMute does not bypass paywalls, unlock protected content, or fetch paid articles. It simply helps you avoid sources you have chosen to mute and find alternative coverage elsewhere. Supported search engines • Google • Bing • DuckDuckGo SiteMute — Mute the sites you don’t want to see.
