FreeTTS reads web pages out loud in a natural voice. Select any text and right-click, or send the whole article to the player and listen while you do something else. NEW IN 1.5.3 Free readings are now five times longer. The per-generation limit was quietly capped at 1,000 characters in the extension while the service already allowed 5,000, so pasted text was being cut short. That is fixed, and Creator plans get their full 25,000 characters per generation. Voices in the reader are labelled honestly. A number of ordinary free voices were being shown as premium; they are now correctly marked as free, and Polish pages read with a free voice instead of asking you to upgrade for one you never picked. Running out of characters now explains itself. Instead of failing with a generic error, you are told what happened and offered a top-up. AI Summary keeps working after you sign in on a free account, voice previews say why they stopped rather than going quiet, and the reading meter shows the allowance you actually have. WHAT IT DOES Right-click any selected text to hear it read aloud, or open Theatre Mode for a distraction free reading view that highlights each word as it is spoken. Long articles can be queued and played one after another. Anything you listen to can be downloaded as an audio file. The extension detects the language of the page and picks a matching voice for you. It covers more than 75 languages, drawing on a catalogue of over 400 neural voices. VOICE PICKER Browse voices by the job you need doing, such as narration or news, or filter by language and gender. Every voice can be auditioned before you choose it, and the ones you like are saved so they stay at the top of your list. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS Alt+Shift+S reads your current selection. Alt+Shift+R reads the whole page. Both can be changed in the extension settings. FREE AND PRO The free tier works without an account. You get 5,000 characters per generation and a short audio watermark. A PRO plan keeps the same 10,000 character generations, removes the watermark, and adds premium HD voices, AI page summaries, background playback that keeps going after you close the tab, and a commercial use licence. Creator raises generations to 25,000 characters. PRIVACY Page text is sent only when you explicitly ask for it to be read, and it goes to freetts.org to be turned into speech. The extension does not read your browsing history and shows no ads. Two other services are involved, neither of them needed to read a page. Anonymous crash reports go to Sentry so we can fix bugs, and you can switch them off in Settings. The small language flags in the voice picker load from the jsDelivr open source CDN.
