1. What are freediving fins? (~100 words) • Freediving: form of underwater diving that relies on divers' ability to hold their breath until resurfacing rather than on the use of a breathing apparatus such as scuba gear. • Fins help us move under water, they increase the area of our feet allowing our kicks to generate more “power”. 2. What are main Features of freediving fins? (~500 words) • Materials: Durable, affordable... - Plastic - Plastic composite - Fibre glass - Carbon fibre • Foot pockets - Some fins come with interchangeable blades, therefore have ‘interchangeable foot pockets’. • Stiffness - Stiffer fins will move you further but with more effort, softer fins will move you less far but they will use less energy to do so and will not tire your legs - Most beginners should use either soft or medium stiffness, depending on their overall build: . small, light & not a proffesional runner => choose soft flex . average & have a normal muscle structure in your legs => medium stiffness. . big build & strong legs => hard stiffness • Blade: - About 25-50 inches length - fixed or changeable - long blade • Heel: - open /closed - Normally choose closed heel • Design 3. How many types of freediving fins (~300 words) • Bi-fins:: best for recreational diving, buddying and teaching and are similar to what you might have called flippers; designed for the freestyle kick; easy to use & provide greater manoeuvrability • Long • Full Foot Fins • Fin retainers • Monofin: both your feet are inserted into a single, fishtail-like fin, is best for depth and distance; difficult to use but have the advantage of a larger area • Foot pockets • Different stiffness and materials • Wings 4. (~100 words) • by pushing water backwards, in the opposite direction of travel (as do all fins), in order to push the diver forward 6. Why are freediving fins so long? (~150 words) • provide lots of power, more thrust • high efficiency 7. How to choose the best freediving fins (~200 words) • Make sure the foot pocket fits you • Get the right Stiffness • Right material for your level of freediving . Beginner . Intermediate . Advanced 8. How to test which fin blade is best? (~100 words) • Grab your other fins and do one or two swims with the same protocol. Record your results • Time to complete the lap • Number of strokes • Record your perception of how you thought the fins performed, e.g. slower than your regular ones, harder/easier, more force/less, smoother/sloppier. 9. How to care and maintain freediving fins (~200 words) • Before and During the Dive . Avoid standing your fins on the tips of the blades for any extended period of time. . Avoid hot temperatures and hot surfaces as these can damage the fin. .Avoid placing the fins in a car trunk on hot days as the temperatures inside car trunks can exceed the temperature tolerances of the fin and the blades may distort. • After the Dive: Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and towel dry before final storage. • Store in a cool, dry and protected place out of direct sunlight. • Avoid any contact with alcohol, oil, gasoline, aerosols, or chemical solvents. • Do not expose any part to aerosol spray, as some aerosol propellants attack or degrade rubber and plastic materials. • Do not use any type of alcohol, solvent or petroleum based substances to clean or lubricate any part. Do not store your equipment near any oil, gasoline, chemicals, or solvents. 10.
