The extension also adds optional research tools to regular Google Maps tabs. You can inspect business details, compare competitor categories, and move from Maps research to adding a business or starting a scan without switching between multiple tools. Manual extension scans are available with a free Local Rank Guru account and do not use scan credits. Business Categories See visible Google Business Profile categories for businesses in supported search results. The Maps overlay can be enabled or disabled in the extension settings. How a Scan Works 1. Create or connect a free Local Rank Guru account. 2. Add a business and its target keywords in Local Rank Guru, or create a Quick Scan from the extension. 3. Choose the GeoGrid settings and start the manual scan. 4. Keep the dedicated scan window active while the extension checks Google Maps from each grid point. 5. Review the saved rankings and reports in your Local Rank Guru dashboard. Important Scan Note Chrome can throttle background tabs and windows, which may affect Google Maps rendering and ranking extraction. For the most reliable results, keep the scan window active while a scan is running. The extension may pause when the scan window loses focus and provides controls to resume, pause, stop, and monitor the scan.
