Overview

Note dock for Canvas quizzes. Free, no ads. Collects nothing unless your school opts in with a privacy agreement.

Cueboard is a note dock and proctoring console for Canvas quizzes and exams on Chromebooks and Chrome. Students bring teacher-approved formula sheets, outlines and cue notes into their quizzes. Teachers keep academic integrity and the test conditions they set. By default Cueboard collects nothing: no accounts, no personal information, and student notes never leave the Chromebook. FOR STUDENTS • A slim tab on the right edge of the quiz page opens your notes beside the quiz, with formatting, lists and math symbols. • Drafts save automatically on your Chromebook. • At your teacher's deadline your notes freeze with a version stamp (for example v3 · A8F2). • During the quiz your notes are a read-only viewer that works even if the Wi-Fi drops. • No sign-in, no new account, and no name or ID is ever asked for. FOR TEACHERS AND PROCTORS • In-page controls: settings appear on the Canvas quiz edit page and in the quiz sidebar. No separate site to learn. • Separate notes deadline: set a notes due date and time apart from the quiz date. • Note limits: by characters, words or lines. • Study guide detection: flags repeated question numbering (1. 2.), answer sequences (1. A, 2. B), definition dumps and flagged words you choose. Flagged words are shared with students only as one-way hashes, so students cannot read your list. • Post-test review control: notes can be viewed after the quiz only if you allow it. • Exam lockdown: during an active attempt (/take) notes become read-only. TWO MODES • Anonymous mode (default): nothing about a student leaves the Chromebook. Students only read your quiz settings. • School mode (only when your district chooses it): after your school signs a data privacy agreement, its IT department turns on School mode. Students then use the school Google account they already have, and their display name and notes are stored in a Firebase project that your district owns and controls, not the developer. The developer has no access to it. Teachers get the proctor console: see each student's notes and flags by name, approve a version, reopen or extend one student, and export CSV, JSON or TXT built on their own computer. District admins get a built-in admin page to see what is stored, delete a student's or a quiz's notes, purge notes past retention, download a copy, and delete everything. FOR SCHOOL IT • Free, with no ads and no paid tiers. Runs on Firebase's free plan. • A step-by-step setup guide and ready-to-paste files for the managed policy are provided. • The district controls the access rules, who is a teacher or admin, how long notes are kept (up to 30 days after a quiz) and deletion. • One Chrome policy turns School mode on or off. Another stops all network requests. • For your review: this package itself contains a district-kit folder with the IT setup guide, the Firebase security rules, a district record template, the managed-policy template and an example of exactly what is stored, plus a firebase-examples folder and the full privacy policy. Unzip the package to read them. • No remote code, no analytics, and no data sold or shared. For students 13 and older, or younger with school authorization. FAIR USE Cueboard is for assessments where the teacher approves notes. Students should follow their class rules. Cueboard is an independent project of Faros Technologies Incorporated, a student-run team. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instructure, Inc. Canvas is a trademark of Instructure, Inc. Your school decides how it uses Cueboard.
