Aside helps you understand and keep what you read on the web. Translate passages, explain unfamiliar ideas, ask questions, and save useful results without leaving the page. BRING YOUR OWN MODEL AI features require a compatible model service that you configure with your own endpoint and, where required, API key. Aside does not include model credits or a hosted AI subscription. Your provider's charges and terms apply. READ IN CONTEXT • Translate selected text or a web page while keeping the original text visible. More passages are processed as you scroll. • Explain difficult content, interpret classical texts, or extract key points. • Use Quick Q&A to ask about a selection or the current page. Clear the quote to ask a question without page context. • Create reusable actions with your own instructions, output language, model, and result placement. Try an action before saving it. KEEP WHAT MATTERS • Save processed passages with their original text and source link. Search and revisit your collection later. • Generate a daily reflection, optionally using excerpts from your collection. With a model configured, the first visit to Collection each day can generate a reflection; you can refresh it manually or hide the area to stop automatic generation. • Review model usage, request inputs and outputs, and the local result cache. MAKE READING COMFORTABLE • Switch website dark mode on or off, or follow the system, with the bundled Dark Reader engine. • Adjust result colors and typography, and use light or dark themes for Aside's interface. • Open Quick Q&A with Alt+Q and switch between your two most recently viewed tabs in the current window with Alt+W. Shortcuts can be changed in Chrome; existing key bindings may take precedence. YOUR SERVICES, LOCAL STORAGE Requests go directly to the model endpoint you choose. API keys, settings, collections, request history, and cached results are stored locally in your browser. Running a model feature sends the required text and instructions to that service. Aside has no developer-operated relay, analytics service, or cloud sync. The selected provider's privacy policy governs its handling of requests. Supported protocols: OpenAI Responses, OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions, Anthropic Messages, and Gemini Interactions. Use HTTPS for remote services; supported local HTTP endpoints can also be configured. Model availability and capabilities depend on your provider. The interface supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Indonesian, Italian, Turkish, Thai, and Vietnamese. Page tools work on regular HTTP/HTTPS pages where Chrome permits extensions. Browser-internal pages, the Chrome Web Store, and other restricted pages are not supported.
