Overview

Read the original. Hold a key to translate any paragraph, or show both languages. Free and on-device.

Read in another language, uninterrupted. Most translation extensions flood the page with translated text and double its length. Bilingual does the opposite: you read the original, and the translation appears only when you reach for it. ■ Hold to see: hold ⌥ (Shift elsewhere) and point at a paragraph. Its translation floats beside it without pushing the page around, and disappears when you let go. With on-device translation, nearby paragraphs are translated ahead of time, so most appear instantly. ■ Selection: select a few words, then hold the key to translate just those. ■ Both: double-tap the key to show every paragraph with its translation; double-tap again to go back. With room in the margin the translation sits there and the article keeps its length; on busy layouts, or when translations run long, the whole page switches to translation-below-paragraph, so nothing ends up scattered. You can also choose per site. ■ Tuned for the sites you read: on X, Reddit, GitHub, Hacker News and Wikipedia only the actual content is translated, never buttons, bylines or menus, and each post in a feed is translated from its own language. ■ Sentence alignment: point at any sentence and its counterpart on the other side lights up. ■ Word lookup: hold the key and rest on a word to see what it means, in context when you use Precise translation. ■ On-device: uses Chrome's built-in model by default. Free, and your text never leaves your computer. ■ 38 target languages: Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Italian, plus Arabic, Hindi, Thai, Vietnamese, Turkish and more. Where on-device translation doesn't cover a language pair, you can switch to Precise translation. ■ Precise translation (optional): bring your own API key (any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Ollama, Anthropic). It reads the whole page first to keep terms consistent, then translates sentence by sentence and flags wording it isn't sure about. ■ Comfortable to read: translation fonts are paired with the page's typeface, and the translation keeps enough contrast on light and dark sites. No account, no subscription, no data collection.
