Overview

What font is that? Point at any text to see the font that rendered, who made it, its CSS and a free look-alike.

What font is this? Press Option+Shift+F on a Mac (Alt+Shift+F on Windows) and point. Fontsight shows the typeface that actually rendered (not just the CSS font-family list), who drew it, whether it's free, the closest free look-alike if it isn't, and the exact size, leading and tracking to rebuild it in CSS, Tailwind or Figma. FOR DESIGNERS AND DEVELOPERS • Rendered, not declared: Fontsight checks which face the browser really drew with and strikes through the fallbacks it skipped. • Free look-alikes for paid fonts: for any font, the closest free fonts from Google Fonts, Fontshare and open-source foundries, ranked by how they actually draw, with the size and spacing that keep your line breaks when you swap one in. • From face to foundry: an offline directory of 7,900+ families from 197 type houses, from established foundries to emerging studios and the whole Google Fonts catalogue, plus the in-house typefaces of 98 companies. Free, Commercial or In-house, with a link straight to the family’s own page. • True identity: when a site hides a font behind its own name ("brand-sans"), Fontsight reads the font file itself and names it, with its version, maker, coverage and licence. • Swap any font on the live page: glide along a strip of faces, each showing your own text, and the page changes as you go. The faces can come from the page, your computer, Google Fonts or your own font file. Adjust size, weight, leading and tracking, and play with each font's real variable axes and OpenType features, read from its own file. Hold ⇧ to compare, copy the CSS. Esc puts the page back exactly. • A type tester that uses the page's own font files: every style, waterfall, paragraph and glyphs. Export a specimen sheet. • The side panel: every family on the page and its share of the words, the type scale, and the problems you can't see, like weights the page never loaded, faux bold and italic, glyphs drawn in a fallback font, near-duplicate sizes, low contrast. • Copy as CSS, Tailwind or Figma units. Save fonts to a private list. PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION • Five permissions, none with an install warning. No access to any site until you ask. • No analytics, no account, no tracking. Your saved fonts and settings stay on your device. • Extension pages are forbidden from making network requests. Fontsight goes online only to load a font you ask for: "Load every style" in the tester, a font you try in Swap (from Google Fonts, Fontshare or an open-source library), or Google previews in Swap (off until you choose it).
