Fontpeek — identify fonts on any page
Overview
Hover any text to see the font that is actually rendering. Click to pin full typography details and copy the CSS.
Fontpeek tells you which font is actually drawing the text on screen — not just what the CSS asked for. A font-family stack is a list of wishes. "Inter, Helvetica, sans-serif" can render as any of the three depending on what is installed and what has loaded. Fontpeek measures which family the browser really used and highlights it in the stack. Free. All of it. No account, no trial, no upgrade prompt. HOW IT WORKS Click the toolbar icon or press Alt+Shift+F, then hover any text. Click to pin the card, press Esc to unpin, Esc again to exit. WHAT YOU GET • The font that is actually rendering, not the first name in the stack • Size, weight, style, line height, letter spacing and text transform • The full font-family stack with the active family highlighted • The complete CSS block, ready to paste — only the properties that differ from their defaults, so you get six useful lines instead of fifteen noisy ones • Text colour and the effective background colour, each copyable as hex • WCAG contrast ratio with a pass or fail verdict, using the correct threshold for the text size and weight • A history of your last 20 inspections, exportable as CSS or JSON TYPE AND ACCESSIBILITY IN ONE PASS Most font identifiers stop at the typeface. Fontpeek also computes the contrast ratio between the text and its effective background — walking up the DOM to find the first non-transparent ancestor — and tells you whether it passes AA or AAA. One hover instead of opening DevTools, selecting the element and clicking into the colour picker. BUILT NARROW ON PURPOSE Fontpeek asks for no host permissions. It cannot read any website until you activate it on that specific tab, and Chrome shows no permission warning when you install it. Nothing is collected, nothing is transmitted, and your history stays on your own machine. Works on any page, including sites built with web components — Fontpeek descends into open shadow roots instead of reporting the container's inherited font.
