Overview
Remove exact duplicate tabs and organize the current window into clear groups using local or optional cloud engines.
Foldnex removes duplicate tabs and organizes the current Chrome window into clear, colored Chrome tab groups. • Removes conservative, exact-page duplicates with priority for a pinned survivor, then the active tab, then the leftmost copy. • Choose your grouping engine in the first-run setup card, or change it later in Settings. Cleanup remains available before you answer the card. • Groups tabs by task using Offline smart mode, Chrome Gemini Nano when available, local Ollama, or an optional cloud provider. • Groups locally by site category when you want deterministic groups such as Socials, Email, AI, Code, and Video. • Keeps X, Reddit, Slack, and similar services in Socials instead of system or administration groups. • Supports explicit URL rules and keyboard shortcuts. • Remembers each tab's category and your group names. • Optional background preparation labels open tabs across your non-Incognito windows using Chrome Gemini Nano or Ollama running on this device, so a later cleanup can use saved labels. Choosing Gemini Nano during setup enables it; you can control it in Settings. Auto-group new tabs also enables on-device preparation while it is on. With both settings off, these engines only finish labelling tabs a cleanup placed provisionally, then stop. • Gemini Nano depends on Chrome and device eligibility and may need a model download. In our Apple Silicon Mac test, loading took 15-25 seconds and used about 3 GB of memory; results vary by device and Chrome version. Foldnex releases its model sessions after 5 minutes idle by default; Chrome controls when memory is freed. Settings lets you change the idle period or release the sessions at once. • Can optionally file tabs you open into matching groups as they load (Auto-group new tabs). • The extension is free. Optional cloud providers may charge for API use. OpenAI Priority processing is on by default for lower latency at a higher price; you can turn it off in Settings. The provider determines the returned tier and billing. • Optional Cloud economy mode, off by default, skips optional cloud naming and consolidation requests while retaining category labelling and local planning with remembered or deterministic names. • Local provider-usage totals help you inspect request and token counts and can be cleared in Settings. They are not a billing estimate. • Includes Offline smart mode and By site category with no API key and no cloud tab-data request. Background preparation runs only with an on-device engine and never sends tab data to a cloud provider. Ollama runs locally by default; a configured non-loopback server receives tab inputs and is treated as a cloud engine. Cloud grouping is opt-in. When selected, the chosen provider receives tab titles (up to 160 characters each) and URL host/path hints when you run a cleanup. Optional group refinement also sends a few shortened member titles, category keys and tab counts. If you turn on Auto-group new tabs, the provider receives titles and hints for each tab you open or send to a new page afterwards, in the background; tabs that were already open are not sent that way. URL credentials, query strings, fragments, and page bodies are not included in grouping inputs. Provider authentication credentials are sent to the provider; titles and paths can still contain sensitive text. See the privacy policy for the complete data contract. The popup and settings page include a user-initiated Donate link to https://magrathean.uk/donate/. It opens in a separate tab. The extension does not process payment information.
