Folder Shuttle
Overview
Download, upload and delete folders in JupyterLab, from a panel right on the page.
Folder Shuttle moves whole folders between your computer and a JupyterLab server you are signed in to, from a panel that drops down right on the page. For anyone who wants an easy way to get folders in and out of JupyterLab or JupyterHub: students copying course materials, researchers and teams backing up projects, or anyone moving work between their computer and a notebook server. DOWNLOAD A FOLDER • Pick any folder and save it as one zip file. • Make the zip file in your browser (nothing changes on the server), or on the server first for a smaller, faster download of large folders. • The zip file streams straight to disk, so even big folders do not fill up your memory. UPLOAD ZIP FILES OR OTHER FILES • Drop files onto the panel or choose them. Each zip file is extracted into its own folder; other files are copied as they are. • Rename the folder before uploading, and create new folders on the spot. • macOS extras like __MACOSX and .DS_Store are skipped automatically. • You are always asked before an existing folder or file is replaced, and before hidden files go into your home folder. DELETE A FOLDER • Everything inside is counted first, including hidden files, and you confirm before anything is deleted. • Read-only folders and your home folder are protected. MADE TO FIT IN • Opens from the toolbar icon as a panel on the JupyterLab page, and follows JupyterLab's light or dark theme. • Read-only folders are marked, so you always know where you can save. • Keep working while a transfer runs: the panel shrinks to a small progress indicator. REQUIREMENTS • JupyterLab 4 in desktop Chrome 120 or newer. • "On the server" downloads, uploads and deletion start a separate Python kernel. They need permission to start one, writable space for temporary files, and a Linux or macOS server where the kernel sees the same files as JupyterLab. Downloads made in the browser need none of this. PRIVATE Your files only move between your browser and your Jupyter server. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is sent to the developer or anyone else. The extension only gets access to a tab when you click its icon there. Free to use. Folder Shuttle is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Project Jupyter.
