Letterboxd Toolkit

)Overview
Stats for your Letterboxd diary, your year in film, and friends' ratings and IMDb scores on every film page.
Letterboxd Toolkit Your Letterboxd diary is a record of everything you have watched. We turn it into the story of your taste. Open Stats and your diary becomes "A Life in Film", a recap staged like a night at the movies: your name up in lights, an admission ticket with your films, hours, directors and countries, and a Cinephile Score that reads how far your watching strays from the multiplex. Then the faces you keep coming back to, the countries your films came from, how much of the canon you have seen, your genres, your best film of every decade, and the films you rate higher or lower than everyone else. It is not only a lifetime view. Pick any year you have logged and the whole page re-reads for it: how the year opened and closed, the films you went back for, a wall of every poster, and the box office week by week. When it is worth showing off, one button turns it into a one-sheet you can post anywhere. It is drawn in your own browser and never uploaded. On every film page we add two things Letterboxd does not: how the people you follow rated the film, and the outside verdict, with IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores right beside them. WHAT WE DO Stats • Cinephile Score: one number out of 100 for your taste, across five tiers from Popcorn to Criterion Closet, with the points you need for the next tier and the deep cuts that lifted you. • Cast, directors and crew: your most watched and highest rated actors, directors, writers, cinematographers, composers and studios, matched against The Movie Database (TMDB). • Cinema passport: a world map lit by every film you have watched, stamps for the countries you visit most, and every language you have heard on screen. Flip to Highest Rated and the map recolours by your ratings. • List progress: seventeen canonical lists, from the IMDb Top 250 and the AFI 100 to Sight & Sound's greatest and the Palme d'Or. Every dial opens its list, so you can see what is left. • Genres and eras: your top genre on the marquee, every genre in the seating chart, the themes you keep buying tickets for, films by year, and a frame from your best film of every decade. • Highs and lows: your favourites and your least favourites, and the films you rated higher or lower than the Letterboxd average. • Switch any ranking between Most Watched and Highest Rated, and click almost anything to open it on Letterboxd. • Every section is optional. Open Settings, press Configure on Stats, and choose what the page shows. One Year at a Time • Showtimes under your ticket: all time, last year, or any year in your diary. • The year's bookends: the film that opened it and the one that closed it. • The films you went back for, a wall of every poster, and the box office week by week. • Your watch dates never leave your browser. We read them on your machine to work out the year, and they are never sent. Share Your Stats • One button turns the page you are looking at into a one-sheet: your ticket, your score, the people you watch most, your genres and a strip of your deep cuts. All time or any single year. • Copy it, save it as a PNG, or hand it to your share menu. • The card is drawn in your own browser from what is already on the page. Nothing is uploaded. Friends' Ratings • The average score from the people you follow, with a rating distribution, right beneath the global ratings chart. • Styled to match Letterboxd, and it works as you click around the site. External Scores • IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic on every film page, beneath your friends' ratings, each coloured by its own site's convention. • One switch turns the row off, and each source has its own. • Films the critics never covered show only what exists. No empty rows. Everywhere • A settings page where every tool is a card with its own switch, and a popup with the master switch. • Runtimes read as hours and minutes, not "148 mins". • Everything is cached on your device, so pages stay quick. PRIVACY & DATA Friends' Ratings is fully local. We read only the Letterboxd pages you are already viewing, with your own session, and compute everything in your browser. Nothing leaves your machine. Stats sends the bare minimum, and only after you say yes. To tally your stats we send our compute server an anonymous list of film identifiers and your own star rating for each. Never your name, username, email or login. The server returns your stats and stores nothing about you, and your IP address is never logged. Your film list comes from your Letterboxd data export, the same file Letterboxd's Settings gives you, and only if you agree. The export is read in memory in your browser and never saved. We open only your watched films, ratings, diary and profile; your username is used only to check the export is yours and never leaves your device. Films you log later are picked up from your public diary feed. Choosing a year changes nothing about that. Your watch dates stay on your device, and the server is never told which year you are looking at or when you watched anything. External Scores sends our server the identifier of the film page you are on, and nothing else. Your browser never contacts IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic. Sharing sends nothing anywhere. The card is drawn on your machine and stays there unless you send it yourself. No ads, no analytics, no trackers, no data sales, ever. QUICK START Install the extension and sign in to Letterboxd. For Stats: click the Stats marquee in the header, agree once, and say yes to reading your Letterboxd export. Your recap builds itself. To see a single year: use Showtimes under your ticket. To share: press Share on your ticket, then copy, download or send the card. For Friends' Ratings and External Scores: open any film page. Click the extension icon to switch the toolkit on or off, or open Settings to choose tool by tool and, for Stats, section by section. DISCLAIMER This is an independent, fan-made project.
