Tidy Start

A quiet, searchable new tab page for your favorites and history.

Tidy Start replaces your New Tab page with a quiet, searchable home base. Instead of news and ads, you get your own bookmarked favorites — automatically ranked by how often you actually use them — plus a searchable history rail so you can quickly get back to where you left off. A single search box filters both at once, live, as you type. Customize the look with light/dark/system theme, compact or comfortable density, and the option to hide either section entirely. Tidy Start runs entirely in your browser. It has no servers, no analytics, and no third-party integrations — your bookmarks and history never leave your device. Search without touching the mouse: from any tab, type "#" and a space in the address bar, then keep typing — matching favorites and history stream back as live suggestions, just like Chrome's built-in bookmark search. Pick one to go straight there, or press Enter to land on Start Clear pre-filtered. Works even if your organization locks the New Tab page. Some workplaces force the New Tab page to a specific URL through browser policy, which normally blocks any extension — including this one — from taking over that page. Tidy Start includes an optional workaround: point it at the forced URL in Settings, and it will automatically redirect you back to Tidy Start instead. This is opt-in and scoped to exactly the one site you specify — nothing is granted or activated until you turn it on yourself. If your New Tab page is locked, open this extension's Details → Extension options from your browser's extensions page to set it up (since the New Tab page itself won't be reachable until you do).
