Overview

A calm, intentional new-tab page.

Focus Tab replaces your new-tab page with a quiet, intentional dashboard: • Today's intention — one text field that auto-clears at midnight • Mini todo list — five items max, by design • Pomodoro timer — survives tab close, fires a notification at the end of focus and break • Top of Hacker News — refreshed in the background, click to read • Weather and local time — set your city once, forget it Nothing scrolls. Nothing tracks. Nothing about your data leaves your device — Focus Tab makes only two outbound calls: one for the top HN story (no personal info sent) and one for weather (just the coordinates of the city you set). Dark mode by default. Inter font, self-hosted (no Google Fonts call). Accessible focus rings; respects prefers-reduced-motion. Configurable: focus and break durations, time format (12 / 24 hour), temperature units (F / C), refresh intervals for HN and weather. what's new in 0.1.2 todos archive — finally a memory • checking a todo archives it instantly, freeing a slot in the 5-cap active list — no more "done but still taking up space" • 5-second undo toast in the widget catches stray clicks • new History tab in settings: see everything you've completed, grouped by date, with per-item restore • export your archive as JSON, or clear it all if you want a reset • optional "N completed today" footer in the widget feed sources beyond hacker news (carried over from the 0.1.1 round for anyone catching up) • pick npr, bbc, aeon, quanta, lobsters, or paste any RSS URL • hide already-clicked stories with a single toggle • toggle score / comments / domain visibility on each HN card • settings polish: back-to-focus-tab link, dark dropdown menus the layout and zen aesthetic stay the same — these are capability additions, not a redesign. what's new in 0.1.3 quick links — a launchpad in the hero strip • pin up to 6 favorite URLs as favicon chips under the time and weather, so the new tab is a way out, not a place to land • favicons come from chrome's own cache (no network requests, no per-site permissions to grant) • edit from a new "quick links" section in settings: add, reorder with ↑/↓, remove with ×, and a one-line "https://example.com" + label form for new entries • type bare hosts like "gmail.com" — they normalize to https:// for you • blank labels auto-derive from the hostname (mail.google.com → mail) • duplicates rejected on save; non-http(s) schemes blocked so a stray paste can't turn into a stored javascript: link • an empty list renders nothing — the hero stays clean until you add something the cap of 6 is deliberate. enough for gmail/calendar/github/drive/notion/ slack-style essentials, few enough that the strip stays a "focus list" rather than a launcher. what's new in 0.1.4 ai day planner — one quiet ritual, then it gets out of the way • a small "plan my day" affordance under your intention, once per day: brain-dump what's on your plate, get back a suggested intention and up to 5 todos, accept or discard • your unfinished todos ride along as carry-over candidates — the plan decides what still matters • bring your own API key (DeepSeek or OpenAI), configured in a new "ai planning" settings section; pick a model or take the default • completely invisible until configured — zero AI pixels out of the box • after you accept or skip, the affordance disappears until tomorrow; no chat, no follow-ups, no background calls — one request, only when you ask • everything sent is disclosed in the privacy policy: your brain-dump text and current todo texts, to the provider you chose, only at the moment you click plan • provider access is granted as a runtime permission on save, revocable any time in chrome://extensions also fixed • conditional settings fields (custom RSS url, hacker news sub-source) now actually hide when they don't apply — a stylesheet rule had been quietly overriding the hidden attribute since 0.1.2 the once-per-day cap is deliberate. the AI helps you set the day's direction, then leaves you alone — a planning tool, not a companion.
