Overview

Pause distracting websites for a few hours, today, or this week. Come back to a calmer countdown and a fresh focus quote.

Focus Pause helps you step away from distracting websites while keeping your pause data on your device. I built Focus Pause because the privacy policies of other focus tools I found made me uncomfortable. I wanted a simple way to block distractions with clear, limited data use. That’s the idea behind Focus Pause. Choose a website, choose how long to pause it, and get back to what matters. When you try to visit that site, a calm page shows the time remaining and a short focus quote—a moment to reconsider opening another feed. Privacy is part of how it works: • No account or sign-up. • No ads, analytics, or telemetry. • No browsing-history log. • No reading website content, messages, passwords, or form entries. • No selling or sharing your pause settings or browsing information. • No sending your pause settings to the developer or an external server. • Your selected websites and pause times stay in your local Chrome profile and are not synced across devices. Focus Pause briefly uses tab addresses to identify the current website and redirect matching tabs. It does not save full URLs or a record of the pages you visit. Quotes and other extension resources are included with the extension. Make room for focused work: • Pause a website for 1, 2, or 4 hours, or choose a custom duration from 15 minutes to 7 days. • Choose Today to pause until local midnight, or This week to pause until next Monday. • Select the website you’re currently visiting, use a quick choice, or enter a domain. • Apply pauses to the selected website and its subdomains, including matching tabs already open. • Keep your pauses active across Chrome restarts. • Extend a pause when you need more time, or end it early with a confirmation. You choose which websites Focus Pause can access. When you pause a site, Chrome asks for permission for that site and its subdomains. Those permissions remain after a pause ends; you can revoke them in Chrome’s extension settings whenever you like. Whether you’re studying, writing, working, or taking a break from a feed you keep reopening, Focus Pause adds a small, deliberate barrier to the habit. Simple website pauses. Clear privacy practices. More room to focus.
