Cat Mode — Keyboard Guard

Block your keyboard & trackpad so pets walking across them can't disrupt your video or page. Unlock with your own shortcut.

Put on a "videos for cats" clip — birds, mice or fish darting across the screen — and your cat goes into full hunting mode. Then every pounce lands on the keyboard. The video pauses, skips, mutes, or the tab closes. You become a full-time video-un-pauser. Cat Mode fixes that. Flip it on and it swallows every key, click, tap, scroll and right-click on the page before the page ever sees them. Your cat can smack the laptop all they like and the video just keeps playing. A "🐾 Cat Mode ON" banner sits at the top of the page so you always know it's active. To take control back, press your own unlock combo — something only a human would press (Ctrl+Shift+K by default, fully customisable). There is also a browser-wide panic-unlock shortcut that works even while the page is blocking input, and the toolbar toggle, which always works. A safety timer switches Cat Mode off by itself if you walk away, so you can never get stuck. Then there's the fun part. Cat Mode counts every paw it blocks and remembers what your cat tried to type. One click turns that into a shareable Paw Report card. Also handy for wiping down a keyboard or screen without setting off half your browser. TWO THINGS WE WANT TO BE UPFRONT ABOUT Both are optional and can be switched off in Settings. • "Record what your cat typed" keeps the last 24 characters of keys that Cat Mode had ALREADY blocked — keys that never reached the page. It is capped at 24 characters, overwritten every session, stored only on your device, never synced and never transmitted. It is skipped entirely whenever a text box or password field has focus (including one inside a web component), and whenever Ctrl, Alt or ⌘ is held. It is not a keylogger: it can only ever see input that Cat Mode already stopped, and it stops recording the moment you might be typing something real. • "Suggest Cat Mode" reads the search box of the page you are on so it can spot a cat-video search and offer to turn Cat Mode on. The matching happens entirely on your device against a fixed list of cat-related words. No other page content is read, nothing is stored, and nothing is ever sent anywhere. ONE LIMITATION, STATED PLAINLY Like every Chrome extension, Cat Mode can only guard input inside web pages. It cannot block the browser's own shortcuts (a cat hitting Ctrl+W will still close the tab), the address bar, or anything outside Chrome — those need an operating-system tool.
