Overview
Read faster while maintaining comprehension. A distraction-free reader mode with pacing aids.
FlowReader turns any web page into a calm, distraction-free read, and keeps what you save in a library on your device. Free, with no account needed. I have always read a lot: books, papers and news. FlowReader started as a simple app for reading and for finding things again later. Over a year it grew with the things I needed myself, and most of it is free. HOW IT WORKS • Press Ctrl+Shift+E (Cmd+Shift+E on Mac) by default, or right-click and choose "Open in FlowReader", and the page opens in the reader • Save it to your library and come back to it exactly where you stopped • Ctrl+Shift+F (Cmd+Shift+F) or the toolbar icon opens your library • Everything you save can be read offline READ YOUR WAY • Four reading modes: Normal, Pacing (timed highlighting that guides the eye), Book (paged) and RSVP (one word at a time for speed reading) • Optional Bionic emphasis in Normal mode • Read-aloud with a voice that runs on your device for English • 32 themes, layout and typography controls, and reading presets • In-document search and chapter navigation • 55 keyboard shortcuts and a command palette HIGHLIGHTS AND NOTES • Highlights in eight colours, notes and bookmarks • A note editor with blocks: type / for blocks, @ to link an item in your library, [[ to link another note • Backlinks show which notes link to each note A LIBRARY THAT STAYS YOURS • Nested collections, tags, filters and bulk actions • Library-wide search that jumps straight to the passage • Import documents, ebooks, Kindle formats, comic books, and so on. • Bring your reading list from Pocket, Instapaper, Readwise, Omnivore or Raindrop • Reading statistics and goals • Export your data whenever you like BUILT-IN READING SOURCES • Hacker News and Lobsters, with the article and the comment thread side by side • arXiv: search papers and read them in the reader • Royal Road: follow serials and read them like books • RSS feeds and news sites • OPDS ebook catalogues FREE AND PRO Everything above is free. FlowReader Pro is €7.99 per month after a 14-day trial, and adds: • Sync across your devices • Newsletters delivered to a private address • The Assistant: AI chat, scheduled tasks and reports, and monitors that watch pages for new items or changes • Ask your documents and collections and get answers with citations, using your own key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and others) or a local model with Ollama or LM Studio • The knowledge graph of your library • Smart Rules that organise new items automatically • Collection sharing • MCP access, so your AI tools can work with your synced library Pro is managed through your FlowReader account and billed by Stripe. Chrome Web Store payments are not used. If Pro ends, your library stays on your device and stays readable. PRIVACY No ads, no analytics SDK, and no sale of data. Your library stays on your device unless you turn on sync, sharing or an AI feature. The only thing FlowReader itself receives automatically is one anonymous daily usage count with no identifier, and you can turn it off in Settings.
