Overview
Split one tab into saved, switchable workspaces
Flincth turns one browser tab into a workspace you can arrange. Pick a layout, drag the dividers until the proportions look right, and assign a site to each pane. Save that arrangement, build another one, and move between them with a click or a keyboard shortcut. Your tab bar stays as short as it was. WHAT IT DOES • Split one tab into up to eight panes. Six starting layouts, or drag your own. • Put any site in any pane — type an address, or pick one of the tabs you already have open. • Save as many workspaces as you like, each with its own name, color and icon. • Switch between them from the toolbar popup, the tab strip at the top of the page, or a keyboard shortcut. • Workspaces you switch away from stay loaded — a few at a time, and you decide how many — so a half-written comment or a scrolled-down page is still there when you come back. DIVIDERS THAT SNAP AND LINE UP Dragging a divider works the way moving a layer works in a design tool. It catches on an even split, on neat fractions like a third or three quarters, and on the dividers in other rows, so two separate splits land on exactly the same pixel. A guide line appears only when something is actually caught, and a small readout says what it caught, so nothing moves under your hand without telling you. Hold Alt while dragging to ignore all of it and put the divider precisely where you want it. The arrow keys resize a focused divider without snapping at all. SITES THAT REFUSE TO BE EMBEDDED Some sites will not display inside another page, and some keep you signed in using storage that an embedded view cannot reach. For those, a pane can open as a real browser window placed over its own pane instead. The site then behaves exactly as it does in an ordinary tab — same session, same sign-in, same everything — while still being part of the arrangement. The window follows its pane when you resize the split or move the browser. Nudge it slightly and it snaps back into place; move it somewhere on purpose and it stays where you put it. PRIVACY Flincth asks for access to no website at all when you install it. When you assign a site to a pane, Flincth asks for permission for that one site, at that moment, from your click. Every site you have granted is listed on the options page and can be taken back individually or all at once. Flincth collects no data. There are no servers, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no account. Your workspaces live in this browser's local extension storage and never leave your device. Uninstalling removes them. You can export them to a file and import them back yourself, and that file stays on your computer too. Flincth also never injects anything into the pages it shows you — it contains no content scripts and reads no page content, no cookies and no form data. The code ships unobfuscated, with source maps, so anyone reading it sees what was written. KEYBOARD Four toolbar shortcuts can be pointed at whichever workspaces you use most, and any workspace can have its own key combination on top of that. Dividers can be moved with the arrow keys once focused, and every pane is reachable by keyboard. GOOD TO KNOW • A pane squeezed below a usable size is flagged rather than quietly crushed. • Changing a layout keeps the sites you already assigned wherever they still fit, and tells you first if any would be lost. • Sites opened in a pane are ordinary web pages and are governed by their own privacy policies. • Flincth is free, and there is nothing to buy inside it.
