Overview

The future of documents for the new era

--Origami Folio-- Office suites give you binaries, accounts, and cloud lock-in. Origami gives you one self-contained .origami.html file. Double-click it and it opens in any browser—no app, no account, no network required. Any AI can read and rewrite it cleanly. You build and edit it in Origami Studio. The idea is simple: fold a flat sheet the right way and it becomes a crane. Every slide, chart, document, and report is a fold. Together they form one finished file. --What it is-- Origami Studio is a Chrome extension for making .origami.html documents—decks, reports, and dashboards as a single HTML file. That file holds your content (plain template tags), styling (CSS), a small viewer/editor script, and embedded fonts. Nothing is fetched from elsewhere. Email it like a PDF. The recipient can read, present, print, or unlock and edit—with nothing installed. No project folder, no zip of XML, no cloud doc that stops working when a subscription ends. --Why it is different-- One file, not a folder. A full deck is one .origami.html. No assets directory, no export step to forget, no broken links. Live blocks, not pictures of data. Charts, roadmaps, trackers, and diagrams store numbers as inert JSON. The viewer draws SVG when the file opens. Edit the numbers and it redraws—same result on your screen, in email, or on an older browser. Opens anywhere, offline. Built on the browser runtime already on every machine. No plugin or reader install. A file made today should still open years from now. What you can build Each fold is a self-contained panel: Slides — covers, bullets, full-bleed scenes Stats — large-number cards Charts — bar, line, area, and more from live data Gantt / roadmap — timelines with lanes and milestones Trackers — sortable tables with status and progress Flow diagrams and node graphs Long-form A4 documents All in one file. All editable by you or by an AI. --Private by default-- Origami makes no network requests—no CDN, account, telemetry, or upload. Fonts are embedded; graphics are inline SVG. Untrusted files open locked and sandboxed: scripts do not run, remote URLs do not load. You can read, present, and print safely. Unlock is a deliberate choice for that file. Safe motion uses declarative SVG so it can animate without executing code. --Built for AI editing-- Hand one fold to a model with its kind rules. Paste the reply back; Origami checks structure before applying. One undo reverses it. Changing one fold in a large deck stays cheap. An MCP server is available for tool-using assistants that edit decks on disk. --Optional live features-- Go live — serve a deck from your machine so offline link-cards become live embeds Publish read-only — share a copy that opens in reading mode Export — when older formats are still required Getting started Install the extension and open the Studio. Create a document or open an existing .origami.html. Add folds—slides, charts, Gantt, tracker, or long-form. Optionally hand a fold to a model and snap the result back in. Save. Double-click the file anywhere; it opens offline. One sheet. Many folds. One finished piece of work. --Recent updates-- 0.4.6 - Added Calendar block d upgraded float tools 0.4.4 — Bug Fixes and Freehand Smoothing 0.4.3 — Venn diagrams; node graph and flowchart upgrades 0.4.2 — Draw block for scratchpads 0.4.1 — Expanded chart types 0.4 — Scroll pages, columns, float layout 0.3 — Ledger overhaul and new blocks 0.2 — Scratch pad, custom blocks, QR fixes 0.1 — Initial release
