FilenameFixer - Fix Broken Unicode Filenames
Overview
Fix broken Unicode filenames (NFDโNFC) when uploading or downloading files. Works on Gmail, Drive, Outlook, Slack and any site.
FilenameFixer automatically fixes broken Unicode filenames when you upload or attach files on any website โ and restores them on files you download. ๐ง THE PROBLEM When you create files on a Mac, the filenames are stored in Unicode NFD (decomposed form). When these files are opened on Windows, the filenames appear corrupted โ Korean characters break into individual Jamo (ํ๊ธ โ ใ ใ ใดใฑใ กใน), French accents separate (rรฉsumรฉ โ rรฉsumรฉ), German umlauts split, and Vietnamese diacritics scatter. โ THE SOLUTION FilenameFixer intercepts file uploads and automatically converts filenames from NFD to NFC (composed form) before they're sent. No more broken filenames when sharing files between Mac and Windows. ๐ KEY FEATURES โข Automatic conversion โ Works silently in the background โข Works everywhere โ Gmail, Google Drive, Outlook, Slack, Dropbox, and any website with file uploads โข Drag & drop support โ Fixes filenames on drag-and-drop file uploads โข Copy & paste support โ Fixes filenames on paste events โข Download fixing (optional, off by default) โ Files you download get a clean name too (receiver mode for Windows users; v1.2). Turn it on in Settings โ Downloads. Note: while it is on, Chrome ignores the file names that other extensions (screenshot tools, download managers) give their downloads. โข All languages โ Korean, French, German, Vietnamese, Spanish, Japanese, and any language with accented characters โข Toast notifications โ See what was fixed in real-time โข Conversion history โ Track all filename conversions with 7-day chart โข Per-site control โ Disable on specific websites โข Export/Import โ Backup and restore your settings โข 100% private โ All processing happens locally in your browser. No files are sent to any server. No data is collected. โ๏ธ HOW IT WORKS 1. Install the extension 2. Upload or attach a file on any website 3. FilenameFixer automatically detects NFD-encoded filenames 4. The filename is converted to NFC before upload 5. A toast notification shows what was fixed ๐ PRIVACY Your files never leave your browser. FilenameFixer processes everything locally using JavaScript. No servers, no data collection, no tracking. The extension only requires "storage" permission to save your settings and "activeTab" to detect the current site. Fixing the names of files you download needs the optional "downloads" permission, which Chrome asks for only when you turn that feature on (filenames only, processed locally). ๐ SUPPORTED LANGUAGES Korean (ํ๊ธ), French (franรงais), German (Deutsch), Vietnamese (Tiแบฟng Viแปt), Spanish (espaรฑol), Japanese (ๆฅๆฌ่ช), and any language using Unicode accented characters. ๐ FREE Completely free with no limitations. No premium features, no subscriptions.
