Nobody checks your redactions for you. The clerk does not open the PDF to look. CM/ECF does not scan for Social Security numbers. If a black box was drawn over a line instead of the text being removed, anyone can select it, copy it, and paste it into Notepad — and the filing is public the moment it is docketed. Most of us have seen an unredacted SSN court filing at least once, and the fix after the fact is a motion, a sealing order, and an awkward call. FileCheck is a redaction check you run on the PDF before you hit File. Open the extension, drop the PDF in, and it tells you what it found. Free, unlimited: - Finds text that is still in the file underneath a solid dark box (the copy-pasteable kind) and text that is white or otherwise not visible on the page. This is the fastest way to check if PDF is properly redacted before it leaves your desk. - Shows the SHA-256 hash of the exact file you dropped, so you can prove later which version was checked. - Pages with no text layer (scans) are listed as not auditable. FileCheck does not do OCR; those pages still need a person to look at them.
