Overview
Time, prompts, tokens & cost across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini & 9 more. Focus mode, deep-work timer & prompt library.
AI Time Tracker is screen time for your AI tools. You know how many hours a week you spend on your phone. You have no idea how many you spend on AI. This extension shows you how long you were in ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini and many more, how many prompts you sent, and roughly how many tokens that came to. Everything is measured privately, on your own device. It measures how much you use AI. It never reads what you say. WHAT IT IS FOR One 20-minute session is invisible. Thirty of them across a month is a real part of your week, and nothing is counting it for you. AI Time Tracker puts a number on something you currently only have a feeling about. Once you can see the number, you can decide whether you are happy with it. Most people guess low. They will say "maybe an hour a day" and then find out it was closer to two, spread across a dozen visits they never registered as sessions. That gap between the feeling and the measurement is the whole reason this exists. Not to make you use AI less. To stop you using it by accident. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install it. There is no account, no sign-up, no email, and no onboarding to sit through. 2. Use AI the way you already do. Tracking starts when a supported AI tab is in front of you and stops when it is not. 3. Open the toolbar icon whenever you want the number. That is the entire setup. It takes about sixty seconds, most of which is Chrome asking you to confirm the install. WHAT YOU GET, FREE — NO ACCOUNT, NO SIGN-UP - Time tracking that starts and stops on its own, and pauses when you walk away - Prompt counts and estimated token counts for each AI tool - A compute value estimate: what your usage would cost at typical API rates - Your running total, live on the toolbar icon - A daily goal, a streak, and a stat card you can share - Delete everything, in one tap - The last 6 hours of detailed history, plus today's totals PREMIUM - Unlimited history and a full per-tool breakdown - Charts: usage over time, usage by tool, and an hour-of-day heatmap - AI Wrapped: your usage, summarized into a card worth sharing - Daily usage-limit reminders - Custom tracked sites: add any AI site we do not cover yet - Unlimited CSV exports and a charted HTML report - Weekly and monthly totals on the toolbar WHAT THE NUMBERS ACTUALLY MEAN Time. Measured in seconds while a supported AI tab is the active tab in a focused window. If you switch to another tab, minimise the window, or stop touching the keyboard and mouse for a couple of minutes, counting stops. A tab left open in the background overnight adds nothing. This is the number most people are surprised by, because a browser tab does not feel like a session the way a phone app does. Prompts. Counted when you send one. What is counted is the event and the length of the text, never the text itself. Tokens. An estimate, and labelled as one everywhere it appears. Tokens are how AI models bill and how context limits are measured, and no browser extension can see the real count because it happens on the model's side. The estimate here is derived from the length of what you sent and what came back. Treat it as a good order-of-magnitude figure, not an invoice. Cost. Also an estimate. It answers the question "if I had sent this same volume through an API instead of a subscription, roughly what would the compute have been worth?" It is calculated from the token estimate at published API rates. It is not your subscription bill, and it does not claim to be. Most people find it useful as a sense of scale: it turns an abstract pile of prompts into a number that behaves like money. Sessions. A continuous stretch of use. Thirty short ones and three long ones can add up to the same total time and mean completely different things about your day, which is why both are shown. WHO USES THIS Developers and engineers who want to know how much of the working day runs through an assistant, and whether the paid seat is being used. Writers, students and researchers who need an honest read on how much of a draft started with a model, and how many hours a week that habit occupies. Freelancers and consultants who bill by the hour and want AI time separated from everything else, exportable to CSV when the invoice is due. Anyone who pays for two or three AI subscriptions and quietly suspects they only open one of them. The per-tool breakdown settles that argument in about a day. People doing a digital-wellbeing audit who already track phone screen time and noticed their AI use is the one category nothing measures. QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK How do I see how much time I spend on ChatGPT? Install this, use ChatGPT normally, and open the toolbar icon. Today's total appears immediately and the live figure sits on the icon itself. Does it read my prompts? No. As you press send, the length of the text is turned into a number in memory, and the text is dropped. The words are never stored and never transmitted. The AI's replies are never read at all, under any setting. Does it work with Claude and Gemini too? Yes. Twelve AI sites are supported out of the box, including ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and Premium lets you add any site that is not covered yet. Is there a free version? Yes, and it is genuinely useful rather than a trial. Time tracking, prompt counts, token and cost estimates, the daily goal and the streak are all free forever, with no account. Premium removes the history limit and adds the charts and exports. Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up, no email and no login anywhere in the product. Nothing to create means nothing to breach. Where is my data stored? In your own browser, on your own machine. There is no server behind this extension, so there is no database of your usage anywhere in the world. How accurate is the token count? It is an estimate and is always shown as one. Real token counts are computed by the model provider using a tokenizer no extension can access. The figure here is derived from text length and lands close enough to be useful for tracking trends over weeks, which is what it is for. Is the cost figure my actual bill? No. It is what your usage would have been worth at published API rates. If you pay a flat monthly subscription, your bill does not change based on this number. It exists to give your usage a sense of scale. Does it slow down my browser? No. It counts time and events. It does not inject anything into the page you can see, does not modify the AI tools, does not load remote scripts, and does not make network requests while you work. What happens in Incognito? Chrome switches extensions off in Incognito by default, so that time is not counted unless you turn on "Allow in Incognito" for this extension on the chrome://extensions page. That is a Chrome rule and not something an extension can change. Can I get my data out? Yes. CSV export is built in — one export on the free plan, unlimited on Premium — and Premium also produces a charted HTML report you can open in any browser or attach to an invoice. What happens if I uninstall it? Your history is removed from your device along with the extension. Export a CSV first if you want to keep it. Does it track Copilot in my code editor, or the desktop apps? Not yet. This measures AI use inside your browser. Assistants running inside an editor or in a native desktop app are outside what a Chrome extension can see. Can I use one licence on more than one computer? Yes, up to three browsers on one key. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO Being clear about this saves everyone a bad review. It does not save the AI's answers. Not under any setting, not as an option. It does not monitor anything outside the supported AI sites. Your other tabs are invisible to it. It does not take screenshots, log keystrokes, or record your screen. It does not require or offer an account, sync, or a cloud dashboard. It does not block anything or lock you out of a site. It does not send your usage anywhere for analytics. There is no analytics. PRIVACY There is no server, so there is nowhere for your usage to go. - Your prompts and the AI's replies are never read, stored, or transmitted. Only a length-derived number is worked out in memory as you press send, and the text is dropped. - Nothing outside the supported AI sites is looked at. - Nothing is sold and nothing is shared. - Exactly one network request exists: checking a Premium license key with the payment processor. No usage data is attached to it. The permissions the extension asks for exist for exactly these jobs: seeing which tab is active so time can be attributed to the right tool, knowing when you have gone idle so counting can stop, storing your totals locally, and showing the running total on the toolbar icon. Full privacy policy: https://kartiklabs.in/privacy.html#aitracker PRICING Free covers the measuring and costs nothing, forever, with no account. Premium is a one-off or recurring licence key rather than a subscription you have to remember. One key activates on up to three browsers. Prices are shown in the extension before you buy, charged in your local currency, and a launch discount is applied automatically while it lasts. GOOD TO KNOW - Incognito windows: Chrome switches extensions off in Incognito by default, so that time is not counted unless you turn on "Allow in Incognito" for this extension on the chrome://extensions page. That is a Chrome rule, not something we can change. - On the free plan you see the last 6 hours in detail, plus today's totals. Premium keeps your full history. - Uninstalling clears your history from your device. Export a CSV first if you want a backup. - This tracks AI use in your browser. Desktop apps and coding assistants inside your editor are not tracked yet. - The first day is the least interesting one. The number that changes how you work is the seven-day one, so give it a week before you judge it. HELP AND SUPPORT Email support@kartiklabs.in. A real person reads every message.
