FerryKey
Overview
End-to-end encrypted bookmark sync between your browsers. Only your devices hold the keys.
FerryKey keeps your bookmarks in sync between Chrome and Firefox, with end-to-end encryption. Your bookmarks are encrypted on your device before they leave it, and only your own browsers hold the keys. FerryKey's servers store encrypted data they cannot read. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install FerryKey and choose "Start using FerryKey". Your browser creates your keys. 2. Write down your 24 recovery words. They are your account: there is no email address or password. 3. On your other computers, install FerryKey, choose "Add this browser" and type the words. Each browser forgets the words once it is added. From then on, adding, editing, moving or deleting a bookmark in one browser updates the others within seconds. WHY IT'S PRIVATE • Keys are made on your device from your 24 words and never leave your devices. • Bookmark titles, addresses, folders and even device names are encrypted before upload (AES-256-GCM). • No email, no password: nothing to phish, guess or reset. The server only accepts changes signed by devices you added. • A copy of our database would be useless: it holds public keys and ciphertext, and your keys are random and full-strength. • We're open about metadata: the server can see when your devices sync, how many devices you have and roughly how much you store, but not what you store. • No analytics, no ads, no third-party code, and we never sell data. Hosted on AWS in Sydney, Australia. FEATURES • Chrome and Firefox, on Mac, Windows and Linux. Mix them freely. (Safari coming soon.) • Live sync: changes reach your other browsers within seconds. • Works offline: changes are kept and catch up automatically. • Device list: see every browser on your account and lock out a lost one. FerryKey then switches to new keys the locked-out browser doesn't have. • Mass-delete protection: if many bookmarks disappear at once, FerryKey asks before removing them from your other browsers. • Merges changes item by item and matches existing bookmarks when you add a browser, so you don't get duplicates. BOOKMARKS ONLY, BY DESIGN FerryKey syncs bookmarks and nothing else. Future features (such as password sync) will be strictly opt-in: off by default, end-to-end encrypted, and never enabled without your explicit choice. IMPORTANT Keep your 24 words safe. We never have them, so we can't reset or recover them. Browsers that are already set up keep working without them.
