ChatGPT Selection Assistant is a Chrome and Edge extension that allows you to use the OpenAI API directly on selected text on web pages. When you select a text snippet, the extension displays a floating toolbar with quick actions, such as asking ChatGPT, translating to Portuguese, translating to English, and reviewing the text. The result appears in a popup near the selection, without interrupting your browsing. The extension also allows you to create and edit custom prompts, choose the response effort level, maintain a contextual conversation inside the popup, copy responses, and replace the original text when working in editable fields. The key is saved locally in the browser using chrome.storage.local and is not sent to any external server other than OpenAI’s official API when you run an action. Your personal data is also saved only locally.
