Unread Checker for Gmail keeps your Gmail inbox count visible in Chrome without opening another inbox tab every time. Opening an already-read message will not subtract another message. Updates depend on when Gmail's feed reflects the change. The extension uses Gmail's inbox feed to read the unread count.
