Overview

Read markdown beautifully. Open .md files from your computer or the web, with themes, math, diagrams, and AI-agent support.

Skim turns markdown into something you can actually read. Point Chrome at a .md file, on your computer or anywhere on the web, and Skim renders it as a clean, themed document instead of a wall of raw text. No import step, no separate app: click a link or open a local file and it just renders, tables, task lists, images, and every README you'll ever open included. Skim was built for how people read markdown today: AI coding agents write it constantly. Plans, reports, AGENTS.md, changelogs: agent output is markdown, and it keeps changing while you're reading it. Skim watches the file and auto-reloads the instant it's rewritten, turns YAML frontmatter into a readable header card, and adds a one-click "Copy for AI" button that hands the whole document back as clean markdown source for your next prompt. Beyond agent output, Skim is a full-featured reader for any markdown: KaTeX math with click-to-copy formulas; mermaid diagram rendering; syntax-highlighted code with copy buttons; a scrollspy table of contents; light and dark themes with six color schemes that sync across your devices; a zen mode that hides the sidebar for long reads; print-quality PDF export with page margins and an optional contents page; export to a single self-contained HTML file; a raw-source toggle; copy-selection-as-markdown; keyboard and vim-style navigation; a button that renders whatever markdown is on your clipboard; and an enhanced folder view for browsing local files. Skim also handles the rough edges that trip up other viewers: automatic UTF-8/UTF-16/legacy encoding detection, per-block Hebrew/English bidi direction for mixed RTL/LTR documents, sortable tables, and a large-file guard so huge documents don't lock up the tab. Skim collects no data: no telemetry, no analytics, nothing sent anywhere. Everything happens on your device. It's fully open source under the MIT license, and every feature is free: no Pro tier, no paywalled folder browsing, no account. Questions or bugs? Open an issue at https://github.com/skim-md/skim.
