Overview

Hide the feed on the sites you pick. Search and messages keep working. Show it for 5 minutes, it hides itself again.

Open a site to answer one message and you are still scrolling forty minutes later. FeedGate hides the social media feed on the sites you pick and leaves the rest of the page working. Turn on a site and its feed is gone before the page renders. Search, messages, notifications, and profiles keep working. When you do want to look, you show the feed for five minutes and it hides itself again on its own. WHAT IT HIDES — Home feeds on every site you turn on — Recommendation sidebars next to the page you opened — Short video shelves and story rows — Trending panels and suggested-people modules — Comment threads on the sites that have them, off by default Every surface has its own switch, so you can hide the home feed and keep the sidebar, or the other way round. Supported sites include Reddit, Instagram, and TikTok. The full list, with what gets hidden on each, is on the options page and at https://ext.tmkm.dev/feed-blocker. A TIMER INSTEAD OF A TOGGLE — Show the feed for 1, 5, or 15 minutes, and 5 is the default — It goes back to hidden when the timer runs out — It also goes back when you step away, lock your screen, or spend more than five minutes in another tab — Every new tab of that site opens with the feed already hidden Most feed blockers give you an on and off switch. You flip it to look, and it tends to stay off, because turning it back on takes more effort than leaving it. WHAT STAYS — The site itself: you can still open it and use it normally — Search, messages, notifications, profiles, and the video player — Every site you have not turned on, untouched WHEN A SITE CHANGES ITS LAYOUT — FeedGate checks its target elements on every page load — The toolbar icon warns you and the popup names the site whose layout changed — The options page keeps the date of the last successful check for each site PRIVATE BY DEFAULT — Nothing is requested at install: FeedGate asks for a site when you turn it on and drops it when you turn it off — It sends nothing over the network and collects no analytics — Your switches, snooze length, and check dates stay in your browser's local storage — No account, no sign in, no ads WHY THESE PERMISSIONS — Site access: asked for one site at a time, only when you turn that site on — storage: your switches, snooze length, and selector check dates, saved locally — scripting: applies the hiding rules on the sites you turned on — alarms: ends the snooze timer and hides the feed again — idle: hides the feed again when you step away or lock the screen — activeTab: lets the popup show and turn on the site you are currently on Every site and every surface is free. There is no paid tier and nothing to unlock. Built for people who need these sites for messages, search, and video, and want the endless part gone. FeedGate is an independent extension. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the sites it works on.
