Overview

Reduces visual overload on Instagram™ by hiding media. A deliberate two-step tap reveals content on your terms.

FeedFriction hides Instagram™ visual media by default so you can see captions, usernames, and navigation first, and reveal images or videos only when you deliberately choose to do so. Instagram can be useful, but its visual design often captures attention before you have chosen to engage. FeedFriction reduces that involuntary pull by replacing photos, videos, Reels, and Stories with neutral placeholders while keeping essential context visible. This lets you read a caption, check a message, or move through the platform without being drawn immediately into visual media. Viewing hidden content requires a deliberate two-step interaction. Once revealed, media is automatically hidden again after a configurable interval to reduce passive viewing and make disengagement easier. FeedFriction is designed for people managing cognitive overload, sensory sensitivity, attention dysregulation, executive function differences, or compulsive social media use. It is also useful for anyone who wants more intentional control over when visual media appears. Core features: - Hides media across Feed, Reels, Stories, Explore, Messages, and Profiles - Requires a two-step reveal before media becomes visible - Automatically re-hides content after a configurable timer - Preserves captions, usernames, timestamps, and navigation - Offers temporary pause options for intentional unfiltered use Privacy: FeedFriction runs entirely on your device. It does not collect browsing data, usage data, or personal content. No ads. No analytics. No account required. Compatibility: Instagram updates its interface frequently, so minor visual inconsistencies may occasionally appear. FeedFriction is maintained to preserve its core behavior: hiding media by default and restoring deliberate control over when it is seen. Disclaimer: Instagram™ is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc. FeedFriction is an independent third-party tool and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Meta Platforms, Inc.
