Volume Meter & Timecode
Overview
Stereo VU meter with hot-peak alerts and frame-accurate H:M:S:F timecode, overlaid on any tab playing video - built for video QC.
See exactly how loud your video is - and exactly which frame you're on - without leaving your browser tab. Post Production VU Meter & Timecode overlays a stereo (L/R) audio meter and a frame-accurate timecode readout directly on any video playing in Chrome. Built for editors, QC reviewers, and anyone who needs to catch hot audio or pinpoint an exact frame before a video goes out the door. The panel is fully draggable, so you can move it out of the way of your video or controls at any time - even mid-playback - without interrupting anything. WHY THIS ONE Most audio meter extensions only do audio. This is the only one that also gives you a real, frame-accurate timecode - hooked directly into the actual video element on the page, not estimated - so you can check levels and pinpoint an exact frame in one place, instead of switching between tools. WHAT IT DOES Audio - Live stereo dB bars for left and right channels - A peak-hold marker that catches the loudest moment and settles back down, so you can see recent spikes at a glance - A PEAK reading that turns red once it crosses your "hot" threshold - an instant pass/fail check, no guessing - One-click RESET before checking your next clip Timecode - Live H:M:S:F readout, accurate to the actual frame - not a guess based on assumed frame rate - Frame rate is measured automatically from real playback - Play/pause and single-frame step buttons that control the actual video, so you can land on an exact frame Both - Drag the panel anywhere on screen, even while the video keeps playing - it stays right where you left it the next time you open it - Stays visible even when the video goes fullscreen - One click on the built-in gear icon opens Settings - adjust the hot-peak threshold and bar colors to match your own standard HOW TO USE IT 1. Open the tab playing your video. 2. Click the toolbar icon - the panel appears, ready to go. 3. Drag it anywhere that's out of your way - it won't pause or interrupt playback. 4. Watch the PEAK box (yellow = normal, red = hot) and the timecode readout. 5. Step frame-by-frame or scrub to find exactly what you're looking for. 6. Click the icon again to turn it off when you're done. A NOTE ON PERMISSIONS This extension needs to read a tab's audio to work, which is the one permission Chrome flags with a broad-sounding warning ("read and change all your data on all websites") - that wording applies to any extension using this capability, not a reflection of what this one actually does. It only ever attaches to the specific tab you click the icon on, at the moment you click it. Nothing is collected, stored remotely, or transmitted anywhere - all analysis happens locally in your browser. Not a certified broadcast loudness or SMPTE timecode instrument - built as a fast, practical tool for everyday QC, not a replacement for professional metering equipment.
