Hiver conflict with new Chrome update

Since upgrading Chrome to the latest version, my Google Chat is no longer working. After a lot of back and forth with Google support, it appears the new Chrome user interface is conflicting with the Hiver extension.

Is this a known issue and what is the resolution?

Ugh. Clicking on the hiver ext just goes to the hiver home page.
