Flipside — Page Colour Inverter

Invert page colours for comfortable reading. No site access until you grant it, no network requests, no tracking.

Bright pages are hard on the eyes, and most of the web is still white. Flipside inverts a page's colours so light backgrounds go dark and dark text goes light, while photographs, video and charts keep the colours they were meant to have. It is deliberately simple. There is no account, no sign-in, no upsell, and no theme editor to learn. Open the popup, flip the switch, read. One site at a time, or all of them Turn Flipside on for the sites you actually want inverted and leave everything else alone. Each site remembers its own settings, so a page opens the way you left it. If you would rather have it everywhere, one switch does that too. Adjust it until it is comfortable Full inversion is too much on some pages. Pull the strength back, nudge brightness or contrast, and the change is saved for that site only. Photographs are not turned into negatives Flipside re-inverts images, video, canvases and CSS background images, so a photo of a sunset still looks like a sunset against the darkened page. A keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+I switches the site you are on. Change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts if it clashes with something else. Built to hold as little of your data as possible Flipside asks for access to no websites at all when you install it. It gets access to a site at the moment you switch that site on, and hands the access back when you switch it off. It makes no network requests of any kind, so nothing about your browsing can leave your computer even in principle. It generates no identifier, uses no analytics, and stores your settings locally. That is not a promise about intentions. Search the source for fetch — there isn't one. What it does not do Flipside does not rewrite a site's stylesheet the way a full dark-mode extension does. Inversion is a blunter instrument: it works on every page including ones a theming engine chokes on, but a site that is already dark will come out light. Turn it off for those, or leave them out of your list. Chrome does not allow extensions to run on its own pages (chrome://, the Web Store, the PDF viewer), so those cannot be inverted by anything.
