Overview

Automatically turns your extensions on or off for each site you visit – for security, privacy and compatibility.

“Extensions Auto Toggle” turns your Chrome extensions on or off automatically, by the site you visit. It is made mainly for security: the extensions you don't trust with a site are off while you use the site, and they come back when you leave that site. Why you may need it Most extensions can read and change the content of the sites you visit. That is fine for a shopping helper on a shopping site – much less so on your online banking, your webmail, or your company's systems. Removing extensions is not practical, and switching them by hand every time is easy to forget. “Extensions Auto Toggle” does it for you, every time. It also helps when an extension doesn't get along with a site: switch it off there only and keep it everywhere else. How it works 1. Make extension groups – for example “Shopping helpers” or “Trusted tools”. 2. Make a profile, add extension groups, single extensions, or both to it, and choose how it works: • White List – only the extensions of the profile are on; every other extension is off. • Black List – the extensions of the profile are off; every other extension stays on. 3. Add the sites the profile applies to – single sites, site groups, or both. When a tab goes to a site of a profile, the extensions are switched for it. When you leave, the extensions are switched back to how they were. The profiles are checked in the order of the Rule base – the first profile that has the site applies. This gives you full control over how sites and extensions work together. Main features Sites • Works with any site address – a domain with or without its subdomains, localhost, IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, ports, and paths. • * (the asterisk symbol) is the only supported wildcard. Regular expressions are not supported. • International addresses are supported – shown in readable form and saved in the form Chrome uses. • Site groups – keep shared sites in one place and use them in several profiles, next to each profile's own single sites: a cleaner setup, and one change updates them all. • Add sites from your open tabs, or from your browsing history (only if you choose to give that permission). Protection and control • Protection before the page opens – a short transition page holds a protected site until the extensions are switched, so an extension that should be off never sees it. • Tab control – an optional question before you leave a protected tab, and an option to put the other tabs to sleep while you work on a sensitive site. • The toolbar button – see which profile applies to the page, add the site to a profile or a site group, or switch a single extension or a whole extension group just for now. • Check before you rely on it – Simulation shows what will happen at any address; Checkup points out settings that may need your attention. • A full Log – what was switched and why, and every change to your settings. • Backup and restore – save all of your settings to a file, and restore all of them or only the parts you choose: in the same Chrome profile, another Chrome profile, or even Chrome on another computer. Private by design • Nothing leaves your computer: no network requests of its own, no telemetry, no analytics, no ads, and no account. • It adds nothing to the pages you visit and never turns on an extension you turned off yourself. About the permissions Chrome's install window says the extension can manage your extensions and read and change your data on all websites – that is its job: it switches your extensions for any site you put in a profile. It doesn't read or change what is on the pages. The User guide inside the extension explains every permission. ⚠ Important to know Chrome turns an extension on or off for all tabs and windows of your Chrome profile, not for one tab – they all follow the active tab, the one you are using now. A page that is already open gets the change when it loads again; the extension can reload it for you. So, for better security, close all other tabs while you use a sensitive site. If you prefer not to close them, at least put them to sleep – the extension can do either for you, by the "Single tab" setting of each profile. Supported browser and system Until further notice, “Extensions Auto Toggle” is made for Google Chrome only. No version was developed for other browsers, and it was not tested on other browsers built on Chromium (such as Microsoft Edge, Brave or Opera). It was tested with Chrome on Microsoft Windows, and with Chrome for Testing on Linux – not on other operating systems. Free, and licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0.
