Overview

Export excalidraw to pdf in one click: multi-page, vector quality, searchable text. Free, and it never uses the network.

Unofficial extension. Not affiliated with Excalidraw. 📢 Affiliate disclosure: this extension is free and is funded by affiliate programs. The popup shows one offer for a third-party product, marked as an affiliate ad in the interface, and the developer earns a commission if you sign up through that link. There is no other advertising, no tracking and no paid tier. Every search for how to export excalidraw to pdf ends at the same workaround: save an SVG, then hand your drawing to a converter site you have never heard of. This extension puts an Export to PDF button on the canvas instead, and your browser builds the file. 🚀 Quick start 1. Install the extension and open excalidraw.com 2. Draw something, or open a diagram you already have 3. Click Export to PDF in the canvas menu 4. Look at the preview, then save the file 🎁 Everything below is free • One-click excalidraw export to pdf for the whole canvas. • Multi-page excalidraw export to pdf with smart page breaks: each cut is pushed into an empty gap between shapes, so boxes and arrows survive in one piece. • Frame becomes page. If the canvas uses frames, each frame turns into its own page, in order. • Searchable pdf. Latin and Cyrillic text is embedded as a real layer that Ctrl+F finds and you can copy out. • A4, A3, Letter and Legal, portrait or landscape. • Multi-page output is numbered, so a printed stack stays in order. • Wide diagrams stay whole. A canvas too wide for A4 goes out as one oversized page at 1:1 scale, so the extension never crops it or shrinks the labels to 6pt. • Vector output instead of a screenshot. Zoom to 400% and the strokes are still sharp. • No watermark, no account, no sign-up, no paid tier. • Pasted images, hand-drawn strokes, fonts and colors come out the way the excalidraw canvas shows them. • Shapes parked three screens away are left out, so you do not get a page that is 90% white space. 📄 Why the output looks right ➤ Rendering goes through Excalidraw's own export path, so the pdf matches the diagram you were looking at a second ago. ➤ Excalifont, Virgil and Cascadia are drawn as outlines, so nothing is substituted by a system font on another machine. ➤ Images pasted into the canvas are pulled from the browser database where Excalidraw keeps them, instead of being skipped. ➤ Dark mode canvases keep their colors, and so do custom stroke widths. 🔒 Your diagram never leaves your browser ▸ Reading the scene, rendering it and building the pdf all happen on your machine. ▸ The extension makes no network requests at all. There is no server behind it, no telemetry and no analytics. ▸ It asks for access to no website other than the excalidraw tab you are already looking at. 💸 How this is paid for: affiliate programs The extension is free and stays free. It is funded through affiliate programs, and that is the whole business model. The popup shows one offer from a third-party partner, marked as an affiliate ad right above it, and the developer receives a commission if you sign up through that link. It is an ordinary link: no tracking scripts, no third-party code, nothing injected into your canvas, and no data about you reaches the partner. Ignoring the offer costs you nothing: every feature works the same either way. 🧩 Who exports excalidraw to pdf - Engineers attaching an architecture diagram to an RFC, a design doc or a ticket - Teachers and students printing a whiteboard for a class instead of screenshotting it - Consultants sending a flowchart to a client who asked for a pdf and nothing else - People who keep obsidian drawings and want the same result in a plain browser tab 📐 Sizes that used to break an excalidraw to pdf export ♦️ A 24000 px wide system map goes into one page at scale, and no dialog asks you to resize it first. ♦️ A tall retro board splits into pages that break between columns. ♦️ A single sticky note comes out as a single page, not a poster with a note in the corner. 💡 Small things that save time - Page format, orientation and the rest are remembered, so the next excalidraw export to pdf takes two clicks. - The file name is a normal field in the preview: rename it before it lands in Downloads. - The page count is on screen before you export, so the file holds no surprises. - The preview also opens from the toolbar icon, if the canvas menu is not where you look first. 📤 What lands in the pdf file ▪ Every visible layer of the scene, in the same drawing order. ▪ A white or a transparent background, whichever you pick in the preview. ▪ Page size in real millimetres, so the print result is predictable. ▪ Dark mode output, if that is how the board is meant to be read. ▪ A text layer that Ctrl+F finds inside any pdf reader. 🧐 Questions people ask ❓ Does the extension show ads or use affiliate links? 🔹 One affiliate link, in the popup, marked as an affiliate ad above the offer. The developer earns a commission when someone signs up through it, and that pays for the extension. There are no ads on the excalidraw canvas and no data about you is shared with the partner. ❓ Does the excalidraw export to pdf work offline? 🔹 Yes, completely. The extension never touches the network. ❓ Is this the official Excalidraw+ feature? 🔹 No. This is an independent extension, not affiliated with or endorsed by Excalidraw. ❓ Can it open a local file or handle excalidraw import json? 🔹 No. Open the file in the excalidraw app first, then export it to pdf from there. ❓ Does it work on a self-hosted excalidraw instance? 🔹 Not yet. The extension runs on excalidraw.com. ❓ What about PPTX, canvas sync or the excalidraw library? 🔹 None of that. This does one job: excalidraw export as pdf. ❓ Does it work on the excalidraw desktop app or on excalidraw ipad? 🔹 It is a browser extension, so it works wherever Chrome or Firefox runs the board. ❓ I was looking for excalidraw shortcuts and excalidraw examples, is that here? 🔹 No, those live in the excalidraw docs. This extension covers the pdf part only. ❓ Do I need an excalidraw download or an account to use it? 🔹 Neither. Open the board in a tab and the export button is already there. ❓ Where does the file go? 🔹 Into your Downloads folder, like any other pdf, through a normal browser download. ❓ Will the pdf still be sharp on paper? 🔹 Yes. The pdf export keeps vectors, so a plotter at A0 gets the same lines as a laptop screen. Interface and store listing in 53 languages.
