Overview
Sync bookmarks across browser profiles using a GitHub repo you own — Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and other Chromium browsers.
Keep your bookmarks in sync, on your terms. Evergreen is a browser extension that lets you treat your browser profiles as one synchronized bookmark list. It works across Chromium-based desktop browsers and Firefox. Both versions use the same format, so Chrome and Firefox profiles can share one GitHub repository and stay in step. Your bookmarks remain regular browser bookmarks. Evergreen does not create a separate library or ask you to move everything into another app. It reads the bookmarks already in your browser and stores a synchronized copy as plain JSON in a GitHub repository you control. A private repository is recommended. Evergreen has been verified in Chrome, Arc, Dia, and Comet. Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi are expected to work but are still being verified. Firefox is available through a companion add-on. WHY EVERGREEN? • Keep one list across browsers and profiles. Point each Evergreen installation at the same repository and your bookmarks follow you. • Keep separate lists when you need them. You can use different repositories for work, personal, client, or other browser profiles. • Own the storage. Your bookmarks live in your GitHub repository with full Git history. You can inspect changes, restore an earlier version, or use the JSON file outside Evergreen. • Skip the Evergreen account. Evergreen has no user accounts and no author-operated server. The extension connects directly to GitHub on your behalf. • Limit access to one repository. Use a fine-grained GitHub Personal Access Token with Contents read and write access to only your bookmarks repository. • Sync automatically or on demand. Local changes are pushed after a short delay, and Evergreen periodically checks for changes made by your other browsers. You can also choose Sync now from the popup. • See what changed. Every update written to GitHub becomes a commit with a readable message, giving you a clear history of changes. HOW IT WORKS 1. Create a GitHub repository to hold your bookmarks. A private repository is recommended. 2. Create a fine-grained GitHub Personal Access Token for that repository with Contents read and write access. 3. Paste the token into Evergreen, select the repository, and start syncing. 4. Install Evergreen in another browser or profile and connect it to the same repository. Evergreen connects only to api.github.com. It does not send analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or bookmark data to the developer. Your token stays in the browser's local extension storage and is used only to authorize requests to GitHub. If you export your settings to configure another browser, Evergreen includes the token only when you explicitly choose to include it. The export is downloaded to your device and is not uploaded by Evergreen. Evergreen is free and open source. There is no Evergreen cloud service to keep running and no separate bookmark system to maintain. Your browsers, your repository, your bookmarks.
