Event Inspector A Chrome extension that captures and inspects Google Analytics 4 (GA4) dataLayer events and gtag() calls in real time, with full payload visibility and persistence across page reloads. Overview Event Inspector is a developer tool designed for debugging and verifying GA4 ecommerce tracking, Google Ads dynamic remarketing, and any other dataLayer / gtag instrumentation on a website. Unlike the browser's Network tab or console.log, which are wiped on every navigation, Event Inspector keeps a persistent log of every event keyed to the current tab — so you can trigger an event, reload the page, and still review exactly what was fired. Key Features Real-time event capture — hooks window.dataLayer.push and window.gtag at document_start, before the page's own scripts run, so no event is missed. Persistence across page reloads — events are stored in chrome.storage.local keyed by tab ID. Navigation, full reloads, and AJAX page changes all preserve the event history. Side panel UI — opens alongside the page (Chrome Side Panel API), no need to leave the inspected tab. Card-based event list — each event rendered as a clean mini-card showing event name, source (dataLayer or gtag), live status indicator, and timestamp. Click to expand — full JSON payload with syntax highlighting, plus the page URL where it fired. Color-coded events — purchase (red), add_to_cart (green), remove_from_cart (red), view_item (blue), view_item_list (light blue), begin_checkout (yellow), page_view (purple). Page-load dividers — visual separators between navigations so you can see which events fired on which URL. Filter & search — filter by event name or substring of the payload, and toggle between dataLayer-only, gtag-only, or all events. Auto-scroll — keeps the latest event in view as new ones stream in. Export to JSON — download the full event log for sharing, archiving, or external analysis. Per-tab isolation — events from different tabs never mix; closing a tab clears its events automatically. Clear button — wipe the current tab's event log on demand.
