Overview

Bring your ESPN fantasy league into Blitzen. Reads your league in your browser — never your password or session cookie.

See your ESPN fantasy league in Blitzen. ESPN doesn't offer a public API for private leagues. Other tools ask you to paste your ESPN session cookie into their site; this extension exists so you never have to — it reads your league inside your own browser and never sees that cookie. HOW IT WORKS You're already signed in to ESPN in this browser. When you click "Sync my league" in the extension, it asks Chrome for permission to read one ESPN address — lm-api-reads.fantasy.espn.com. Allowing it closes the extension's window, and that one press is still all it takes, whether this is a league you are connecting for the first time or one Blitzen already holds: the extension holds the sync you asked for in memory — for at most two minutes, never on disk — and starts it itself the moment you allow it. If Chrome's prompt stays open longer than about half a minute, Chrome may put the extension to sleep in the meantime and the request goes with it; the extension says so when you reopen it, and one more press of Sync reads your league without Chrome asking again. The extension then requests your league from that address. Chrome attaches your existing ESPN session to that request, the same way it does when you open ESPN in a tab. The extension reads the response, keeps only the league information Blitzen needs, and hands it to blitzenbets.com in the same browser. You do that once. After you have allowed it, the Blitzen page you have open can ask the extension to read your league again — by league id, plus which team is yours and how many seasons back; it cannot choose what is fetched from ESPN — so your league stays up to date while you use Blitzen, without another click here. You can paste either the league id or the address of your league page; the extension takes the number out of it. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO - It never asks for your ESPN password. - It cannot read your cookies. It requests no cookie permission and runs no code on espn.com — you can confirm both by reading its manifest. - It never writes to ESPN. Every request is read-only. - It does not collect your leaguemates' names or ESPN account identifiers. ESPN's response includes them; the extension never selects them and they are dropped before anything leaves it. Which team is yours is something you tap in the extension — the member list is never read to work it out. WHAT IT COLLECTS League settings and scoring rules, team names, logos and records, rosters and weekly lineups, matchups, playoff results, draft results (including auction prices and keepers), trades and waiver moves (including waiver bids), and each team's current roster, for the leagues you choose to connect — sent to your own Blitzen account and nowhere else. AFTER A SYNC The extension shows what it just did: when it read ESPN, which parts of the league came back and how many rows each carried, which parts ESPN did not answer for, and how many requests it made. If something goes wrong it says which thing — not signed in to ESPN, no league with that id, ESPN not reachable — rather than one message covering all of them. Blitzen syncs your league through this extension whenever you open it on blitzenbets.com, and refreshes it about every ten minutes while that page stays open. Nothing runs when Blitzen is closed — the extension has no background schedule and stores nothing on disk. The first time, you click Sync in the extension once so Chrome can ask your permission to reach ESPN; after that it is automatic. Re-sync in the extension reads it again on demand. The extension spaces its requests half a second apart, caps a sync at 300 requests, and waits five minutes between syncs across every league while it is awake — a guard against a double-press, not a hard limit. What Blitzen shows is always marked with when it was last read. REQUIREMENTS A Blitzen account and an ESPN fantasy league you're a member of. History reaches back up to ten seasons, and only as far as your own membership in that league — which may be fewer seasons than the league has existed. You choose how many seasons to check (3, 5, 7 or 10) when you sync from the extension; the automatic refresh re-reads only the current season.
