Overview

A little pixel cat that lives on your YouTube captions and keeps you company while you watch. Translation and word saving built in.

A little pixel cat that lives on your YouTube captions. Whatever you're watching, it's watching with you. I made it while learning English from YouTube podcasts. Hours of people just sitting and talking, and not much to look at. So I put a cat on the captions. WHAT THE CAT DOES • Wanders along the captions (subtitles) as they change, in any language • Washes its face, stretches, sneezes and squeezes into a box • Knocks your cup off the edge, chases a red dot, and doesn't always look where it's going • Reacts to what's said: a heart for "cute", wide eyes for "wow", a hungry look when someone mentions fish • Dozes off in the corner when a video runs long • Choose which everyday actions it does, and how lively it is: calm, balanced or lively • Stays with you in fullscreen A FEW EXTRAS, IF YOU'RE LEARNING A LANGUAGE • Paper captions: each line on a clean paper card, easy to read over any scene. Alt + Shift + S switches back to YouTube's own captions. • Hover translation: rest your pointer on a caption to see the whole sentence translated, in 16 languages. The video can pause while you read. • Word saving: click a word in English captions to save it with the sentence it came from, sorted by video. Copy a review prompt for your AI tutor, or export everything as JSON. PRIVACY • No account, no analytics, no tracking. Settings and saved words stay in your browser. • Only the caption you hover over is sent to Google Translate, and only when hover translation is on. • Privacy policy: https://captioncat.app/privacy Open source (MIT): https://github.com/loethen/captioncat Modeled after Jinghua, my tuxedo cat.
