Overview

Chrome extension to stop buffering: predicts video stalls before they happen and keeps YouTube and every stream playing smoothly.

No Buffer is a Chrome extension to stop buffering. It predicts when a video is about to buffer and fixes it before the loading spinner appears, on YouTube, Twitch, online courses, news sites and almost any video player. Videos buffer when data arrives slower than playback uses it, or when your computer can't decode the format smoothly. Most Chrome extensions that help with buffering just force one setting, such as low quality or H.264. No Buffer measures your connection, your device and the player many times a second, and acts only on what is about to cause a stall. FREE FOR 100 VIDEOS A MONTH Every feature is included on the free plan, for 100 videos each calendar month (a video counts after a minute of playback). After that, protection pauses until the next month, unless you buy a one-time lifetime license for unlimited videos. No subscription. Checkout and license delivery are handled by Dodo Payments. STOP BUFFERING BEFORE IT STARTS • Stall prediction: tracks your real download speed, how fast the video buffer fills and how fast it drains, and spots a stall seconds before it happens. • Stall Shield: a tiny, pitch-preserving slowdown (5–12%) while the buffer catches up. You won't hear it, and the video keeps playing. • Best quality that won't buffer on YouTube: picks the highest video quality your connection can hold, steps down before a stall and back up when it's safe. • Smart Start: on slow video streaming, it buffers enough before playback to keep going without stopping, with a countdown on the video. • Buffer Boost: deeper buffers for the hls.js, dash.js, Shaka, Video.js and Bitmovin players behind most streaming sites (their defaults are only 10–30 seconds). • Smart Codec: learns which formats your computer plays smoothly and steers players away from the ones that stutter or lag. It never forces H.264 everywhere, because that uses more bandwidth and causes more buffering. • Bandwidth Arbiter: pauses muted autoplay videos in other tabs (and, if you allow it, downloads) while your video is at risk. • Discard Guard: stops Chrome's Memory Saver from throwing away a video you've already buffered. FIX STUCK AND FROZEN VIDEO • Auto-Heal skips gaps in the stream, un-freezes stuck playback and re-requests stalled streams when the site's player can't. SEE WHY YOUR VIDEO BUFFERS • Smoothness Score for every video, day and site. • Session timelines: every stall, how long it lasted, and what No Buffer did about it. • Buffering Doctor: finds the root cause of slow streaming (your connection, Wi-Fi bufferbloat, the decoder, the server or a setting) with one-click fixes, and can explain it in plain language using Chrome's on-device AI. • Network check: download speed, latency, jitter and a bufferbloat grade, plus the video qualities your connection can stream. • Device check: which video formats your hardware plays smoothly. • Live buffer ring on the toolbar icon. WORKS INSIDE THE PLAYER YOU ALREADY USE No Buffer isn't a separate video player, or a one-setting anti-buffering trick. It gives you better video playback inside each site's own player, live streams included, so nothing about how you watch changes. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No accounts, no analytics, no ads. Your viewing data stays on your device. The network check contacts Cloudflare's speed-test service only when you press the button. A lifetime license is checked with Dodo Payments using only the key. QUESTIONS How do I stop videos buffering in Chrome? Install No Buffer and play a video. It starts protecting playback straight away, on every site, with nothing to set up. Does it work on YouTube? Yes. On YouTube it also picks the best quality your connection can hold, and starts each video at the right quality for the site. Will it lower my video quality? Only when a stall is coming, and only as far as needed; then it steps back up. You can also fix a quality yourself, or switch quality control off. Can it make my internet faster? No extension can add bandwidth. No Buffer makes the most of the connection you have, and the Buffering Doctor tells you when the real fix is your router or Wi-Fi. Does it change playback speed? Only during Stall Shield, by a few percent, and only to avoid a stall. It isn't a playback speed controller.
