Overview

Automatic local-only silent-letter and word-stress hints.

Get small English pronunciation hints directly on webpages. English stress underlines the stressed part of supported words and crosses out silent letters. For example, it underlines “por” in “important” and crosses out “k” and “gh” in “knight”. • Automatic hints as you browse, with a global on/off switch. • Separate controls for word stress and silent letters. • Hover for an explanation, or choose Ignore this word. • Ignored words and preferences stay saved locally. • Restore ignored words from the extension popup. • No account, audio service, analytics, or remote dictionary requests. Includes 959 supported words: 507 stress hints and 468 silent-letter entries, with overlap. Pronunciations were checked against CMUdict. The dictionary is primarily US English; uncertain hints and unknown words are left unmarked. It is a selective reading aid, not a complete pronunciation dictionary. Works with ordinary webpage text. Does not annotate images, PDFs, embedded frames, shadow-root content or browser settings pages. Local files require the browser’s file-access option. Some webpages may interfere with annotations.
