Overview

Read local Markdown files with beautiful themes, custom typography, tables, and diagrams. Your documents stay on your computer.

Are you working with AI on a daily basis, and are Markdown (.md) files giving you a headache because of the poor readability or is opening them in yet another app slowing down your workflows? If so, then give your Markdowns, Design Specs a comfortable place to read in the style you want. Mdfy, by Ollins automatically transforms local .md and .markdown files into a clean, customizable reading view when you open them in Chrome. Choose a centered reading column or a full-width layout for larger tables, code blocks, and diagrams. Your original Markdown files remain unchanged. Custom Theming: ---------------------------------- • Paper, Light, Dark, and Sepia themes • Custom background, text, and accent colors • Adjustable body text and heading sizes • Fully integrated Google Fonts integration Increased Readability: ---------------------------------- • Control over paragraph, list, and heading spacing • A curated collection of optional Google Fonts • Tables, task lists, footnotes, callouts, and syntax-highlighted code • Locally rendered Mermaid diagrams • Save and export your preferences, or share with your friends Internal Navigation: ---------------------------------- • Built in Document outline navigation for quick access • Relative Markdown links and local images • Markdown source view and print-friendly formatting • Settings that persist across files and browser restarts How to use: ---------------------------------- 1. Install the plugin & Welcome page opens automatically, or open the plugin from extensions menu 2. Use the provided demo .md file to choose one of three preset layouts, or fine tune to your preference. 3. On your computer, set open .md or .markdown files to open with Chrome as default to open any Markdown file natively with mdfy, by Ollins with your presets. Privacy is built into the reader. Markdown documents are processed locally in Chrome and are not uploaded to Ollins. There is no account, analytics, advertising, or document collection. Google Fonts are downloaded only when you explicitly choose a font. Downloaded fonts are cached for offline use. Remote images referenced by a document remain blocked until you choose to load them for that tab. After installation, open the extension’s Details page and enable “Allow access to file URLs.” Then open a local .md or .markdown file in Chrome. If Chrome downloads Markdown files instead of displaying them, you can use the file picker provided in the extension’s settings. Mdfy is a read-only Markdown viewer. It does not edit files, scan directories, index folders, or upload documents. Requires Chrome 153 or newer. Mdfy, by Ollins is not affiliated with Obsidian.
