Intermission automatically mutes your browser tab the moment a streaming show cuts to a commercial, and unmutes it the instant the show resumes — no more scrambling for the volume key every ad break. How it works: • YouTube: watches the player's native ad-state, so detection is instant and reliable. • Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, and Max (HBO Max): uses on-page signals (ad badges, ad-tech markers) to detect breaks. Accuracy can vary by site since these players change their layouts over time. Features: • Live status right in the popup — see at a glance whether the current tab is in an ad break or playing • Automatic per-tab muting — leaves the rest of your system's audio untouched • Manual override shortcut: Cmd+Shift+M (Mac) / Ctrl+Shift+M (Windows/Linux) • Per-site on/off toggles • Optional debug log so you can see exactly what triggered a mute/unmute Privacy: Intermission runs entirely in your browser. YouTube auto-skip When a skippable YouTube ad shows its Skip button, Intermission clicks it for you. It only acts when the button is actually on screen, so your videos are never touched. Turn it off any time in the popup under Advanced. How it works Intermission looks at the player's on-page state to tell an ad break from your show. On YouTube it skips ads you're allowed to skip. On Hulu, Peacock, Disney+ and Max it mutes the tab during the ad break and unmutes it when the show resumes. Everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing is collected, stored off your device, or sent anywhere.
