Overview

Free screen recorder with webcam and audio. Unlimited recordings, no watermark, MP4 and GIF export. Nothing leaves your device.

Record a lesson, a bug report or a quick hello, then cut it, blur what's private and save an MP4 that plays and scrubs anywhere. TapeBooth is a free screen recorder that keeps everything on your computer: no account, no uploads, no watermark and no time limit. It records one browser tab, a window, your whole screen, or just you on camera. Turn on your microphone and camera and it becomes a screen and webcam recorder, with your face in a small bubble. Press Start and you're recording in seconds. Free, with no paid tier. These are features other recorders charge for, and every one is free here: - Unlimited recordings, and no length limit: record for as long as your disk has room. It's an unlimited screen recorder in the plain sense. - No watermark on anything you record or export. If you need a screen recorder no watermark ever touches, this is it. - Export to MP4, or a GIF for short clips. This is a screen recorder MP4 players are happy with: a normal, seekable file that opens and scrubs anywhere. - An editor that runs on your device: trim the start and end, split, and cut parts out of the middle. Undo and redo every step. - Blur: drag a box over a name, an email or a password and choose when it appears. The blur goes into the exported file. - Quality up to 4K, if your screen supports it. And everything else you'd expect: - A screen recorder with audio: your microphone, the tab's sound, and the computer's sound when you share a screen (if your computer can provide it). - Draw on screen while you record a tab: pen, highlighter, arrow, rectangle and eraser, in five colours and three widths. Click rings show viewers where you clicked. - A camera bubble you can shape (circle, rounded or square), size, mirror and start in any corner. - A countdown of 3, 5 or 10 seconds, pause and resume, and keyboard shortcuts for start/stop, pause and drawing. - Record GIF clips too: export any part of a recording at 480, 640 or 960 pixels wide and 5, 10 or 15 frames per second, with the file size shown before you start. - A Library of all your recordings: search, rename, download or delete them, and see how much space they use. If Chrome or your computer stops mid-recording, TapeBooth recovers what was saved when you open the Library. - Available in English, Arabic, German, Spanish, French, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese. Made with classrooms in mind. As a screen recorder for teachers, TapeBooth asks students and staff for nothing: no account, no sign-in, no class codes. Draw on a worksheet while you explain it, blur a student's name before you share the file, and upload the MP4 wherever your class already lives. Because it runs inside Chrome, it also works as a chromebook screen recorder. To record screen Chrome tabs, windows or your whole desktop, click the TapeBooth button (or press Alt+Shift+T) and choose This tab, Window or screen, or Camera only. It's a small screen recorder chrome extension with one job. Privacy. Nothing leaves your device. TapeBooth has no account, no servers, no analytics, no ads and no remote code, and it makes no network requests. Your recordings, thumbnails and settings are stored in Chrome on your computer, and removing the extension deletes them. Your camera and microphone are used only while you record or preview, and only after Chrome asks you. Permissions, in plain words: - No permission warnings: TapeBooth can't read the sites you visit. It asks for no access to websites at all, so Chrome shows no warning when you add it. - Active tab: when you click TapeBooth's button or press its shortcut on a tab, Chrome lets TapeBooth show its recording controls and drawing tools on that one tab, until you leave it. - Scripting: puts those controls on the tab you clicked. It is never used on any other page. - Offscreen: a hidden TapeBooth page that does the recording, so it keeps going while you switch tabs. - Storage: keeps your settings and the state of the recording in progress. - Unlimited storage: lets your recordings, which are saved in Chrome on your computer, grow past Chrome's default space limit. - Alarms: checks every 30 seconds that a running recording is still healthy, so a problem is caught instead of losing your video. What you share is always your choice: Chrome's own "Choose what to share" window picks the tab, window or screen, and Chrome asks once before TapeBooth can use your camera and microphone. Good to know: - Recordings are saved in your browser as WebM video, which the Library's Download gives you as is. Export from the editor to get an MP4 or a GIF. - Chrome doesn't let extensions show controls on chrome:// pages or the Chrome Web Store. You can still record those by sharing a window or your screen, and stop from the TapeBooth menu. - TapeBooth doesn't record Incognito windows yet. - An MP4 export re-encodes the video when it has to (always with a blur or exact cuts), which takes longer; the export window shows how long before you start.
