Overview

A word clock for your new tab — 8×8 and 16×16 letter plates that light the words for the current time.

Stanza Clock replaces Chrome’s new tab with a letter matrix that lights the words for the current time — the same idea as a physical word clock on a desk. IT IS QUARTER PAST NINE. THE TIME IS TWENTY THREE MINUTES TO TEN IN THE MORNING. ES IST HALB ZEHN. IL EST DIX HEURES MOINS LE QUART. Eighteen letter plates • English 8×8 — three layouts (Home, ATWENTYD, TWFIFTHA), five-minute resolution • English 16×16 — exact minute, reading-order exact, or five-minute with a fuller sentence • German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and Portuguese — both 8×8 and 16×16 plates Each language counts time the way speakers actually say it. German and Dutch count against the half hour (HALB ZEHN is half past nine). French puts the hour first. Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese agree the article with the hour (ES LA UNA, SON LAS DOS). Factory default: EN 8×8 TWFIFTHA, solid colour, spoken phrase, digital time matched to the letter size. Reset to factory defaults from Look or About. Look • Hour hue — the colour shifts through the day • Solid colour — pick any colour • Rainbow — hue varies per letter • Rainbow cycle — hue spins over time • Warm white • Black & white — with an optional invert for black letters on a light page • Letter separator colour — the unused letters between the words • Brightness, cell backgrounds, and night dimming on a schedule • Reading colours for minutes / TO-PAST / hour / time of day Motion & display Four independent groups (seconds indicator and matrix ambience combine; phrase transitions and display modes are separate): • Seconds indicator — frame dot, frame sector, 16×16 bar, hopping tick, or blinking star • Matrix ambience — pulse, trail, or sparkle on unused cells • Phrase transition — split-flap or board wipe when the spoken phrase changes, with optional flap sound (Classic or Wipe) • Display mode — word clock, full-matrix digital, scrolling message, symbol, or large seconds readout Minute dots on five-minute plates show leftover 1–4 minutes as extra lit cells. Speaking clock British Amy MP3s, German Deutsch-Zeitansage WAVs, or the browser computer voice — all follow the lit face, not the raw clock. Schedule: off, on open, hourly, quarter-hourly, or every minute. Speak now for an immediate reading. Audio plays locally from bundled clips; nothing is streamed. Also included • Toolbar popup with a live face and quick controls • Full-window settings (Face, Clock, Look, New tab, About) with a live preview • Fit-to-window or a fixed cell size; letter font, letter size, box gap • Clock left / center / right; stacked phrase; digital position and font size • Timezone override and a freeze-at time for screenshots • Interface language can follow the browser or be set by hand • Factory reset with confirmation
